THE BEAT LIVE: ORIGINAL BRITISH SKA AT IT’S VERY FINEST The band crossed over fluidly between soul, reggae, pop and punk, and from these disparate pieces they created an infectious dance rhythm. Along with their contemporaries The Specials, The Selecter, and Madness, The Beat became an overnight sensation and one of the most popular and influential bands of the British ska movement. By Christmas of 1979, The Beat were riding high in the UK charts with their first single, a smoking remake of the classic Smokey Robinson tune Tears of a Clown. Over the course of the next five years The Beat toured relentlessly and released three studio albums: “I Just Can’t Stop It”, “Wh’appen”, both reaching number 3 in The UK album charts and “Special Beat Service”. The band toured the world, touring with such artists as David Bowie, The Police, REM, The Clash, The Talking Heads, The Pretenders, and The Specials, to name but a few. The Beat kept scoring hits with tunes that have now become so popular that it’s hard to remember a time when they didn’t exist, such as Mirror in the Bathroom, Hands Off… She’s Mine, Too Nice To Talk To, Save it for Later, I Confess, Stand Down Margaret, and their serene cover of Andy William’s Can’t Get Used To Losing You. The Beat featuring Ranking Jnr continue to perform all the classic hits in their dynamic live shows. Support comes rom our very own locla legends Reggie Mental Band!

The acclaimed David Alacey (Lovejoy & Inspector Alleyn) stars as Frank Sinatra alongside West End favourite Tim Harwood as Dean Martin. They are joined by former Corronation Street and Hollyoaks star Ashley Campbell as Sammy Davis Jnr in the original Rat Pack show, now celebrating its 25th record breaking year. Together they amaze audiences with their recreation of a vintage Christmas at The Sands with Sinatra, Martin and Davis in this sensational show which brings the style, glamour and excitement of the Las Vegas heyday to vivid life. Including all the great hits - My Way, Mr Bojangles, New York New York, Amore, Fly Me To The Moon and seasonal classics such as Winter Wonderland, Let It Snow and of course White Christmas. This yuletide treat for all the family, also features the fabulous Buddy Greco All-stars under the direction of BBC Musical Director Mac Shone at the Piano. Greco who was a member of the real Pack in Vegas and a friend of Marilyn Monroe (having spent the famous last weekend at Lake Tahoe with Sinatra and Marilyn) gave the show his seal of approval saying “These guys are as close as anyone will ever get to my dear friends, it was just like being back at The Sands” He also adds an authentic touch of Rat Pack style to the show, by making a specially recorded guest appearance. Just as Frank, Dean and Sammy were joined on stage at The Sands by surprise Special Guests, that element of theatrical magic is recreated in this show with appearances by the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Nancy Sinatra and Liza Minnelli adding even more glamour to this glitzy production. THE HOUGHTON WEAVERS, The Northwest’s premiere comedy / folk group, stars of Radio and Television, have been entertaining folk for a whopping 50 years! Their Annual Winter Tour brings songs, stories and festive fun to the stage, with their unique blend of popular folk music, humour and audience participation. Having recently performed as a headline Act at The Great British Folk Festival, their single “Wild Mountain Thyme” appeared in the Heritage Charts Top 40 and is due to appear in an upcoming film, ‘Between Weathers’. The band has recorded over 30 albums, 23 of which were arranged and produced by Steve Millington. THE HOUGHTON WEAVERS promise plenty of laughter with their infectious humour and funny stories galore. You’ll hear a warming sprinkle of festive tunes as well as the old Weavers favourites such as Blackpool Belle, Sit Thi Deawn, Matchstalk Men and Dirty Old Town, together with new songs penned by the lads, original poems and of course some audience requests thrown in to make every show a little different! Jim Berry and Steve Millington, featuring Simon Brady on guitar and mandolin, is an exciting combination on stage which will certainly have you singing along to this feel-good show!
