Drawing, painting, and meditation have always been among his highest priorities. A lifelong seeker of spiritual truth, this pursuit has remained the driving force behind all of his work and way of being. His childhood was spent filling sketchbooks, daydreaming, and closely observing nature. During his teenage years, he developed an interest in psychedelics, lucid dreaming, and meditation, channeling these explorations into artistic expression through pencils and paintbrushes. Stefan attended a few semesters at the Maryland Institute College of Art, an experience that eventually led him to the Vienna Academy of Visionary Art (VAVA), where he studied for five years in Vienna, Austria. During this time, he became deeply immersed in both the long-standing traditions of Viennese art and the dynamic teachings of Visionary Artist mentors at VAVA. He later became an integral part of the VAVA community, serving as studio monitor and figure drawing instructor. Beyond VAVA, Stefan pursued a dedicated study of the Kriya Jyoti Tantric Yoga lineage, particularly the Cobra Breath technique. This practice initiated a profound spiritual transformation, shifting him from being a spiritual seeker to a spiritual finder, and it continues to be a central aspect of his life as both an artist and individual. Currently, Stefan lives a simple life in Bloomfield, NY with his beloved, Alexandra, their cat Rowley, and their daughter Kynareth. His time is devoted to painting, meditation, and teaching both art and Kriya Yoga. We meet on this monthly high tide of the spirit because the Full Moon is a symbol of the Soul, a luminous circle reflecting a greater light, just as each of us are sacred mirrors of God’s shining presence. The Full Moon Ceremony, held in the Great Hall, Entheon, hosts inspiring short presentations from wisdom teachers, poets, musicians, spiritual friends of all faiths. Alex and Allyson share a presentation on the theme of the month and guests have the chance to offer a blessing or declaration to the community. The performance ceremony adjourns and guests break for live music and dancing, socializing, visiting Entheon, the Mushroom Cafe and the CoSM Shop, gazing into an outdoor bonfire or an indoor fireplace, watching excellent fire-spinning, belly dancing, acrobatics, live painting and more. The evening ends with a closing ceremony and, in harmony with the creatures in our world, a group howl at the moon.   Entheon, the Grey House, and the Mushroom Cafe will be open.   Your Hosts: Alex Grey & Allyson Grey The Visionary paintings of Alex Grey articulate realms of psychedelic mystical experience, revealing interwoven energies of body and soul, love and spirit, that illuminate the anatomical core of each being. Alex’s artworks on the nature of life and consciousness, have reached millions through his five books including three monographs, the exhibition and extensive reproduction of his artwork, social media, live-painting and speaking appearances including a popular TED talk, plus his stage sets, animation, and Grammy award winning album art for the rock band Tool. 2025 Headdress Making Workshop with Kathryn "Ka" June

2025 Headdress Making Workshop with Kathryn "Ka" June

Fri, Oct 10 at 5:00 PM
TBA

Event Information

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:   Join us for this three-day intensive workshop, as we explore playful creativity and the art of adornment by expressing your unique and powerful qualities through making your own headdress.     To wear a crown, or a headdress, has long been depicted as a symbol of authority, sovereignty and divinity. Throughout the ages, and around the world, headdresses have been worn by deities, royalty, rulers, shamans, and ceremonialists, to demonstrate their divine nature, spiritual connection, and archetypal embodiment. While this is still true today, headdresses have also been revived as a celebratory expression, worn for festive occasions and artistic statement.     WHAT TO EXPECT:   We will begin with a multicultural exploration of how headdresses have been made and worn in the past and into the present, as Ka will offer a 90 minute presentation and slide show, full of stunning images of headdresses from all over the world. Ka will share her personal journey, process and philosophy with this art form, as well as the numerous materials and techniques that can be applied within this creative practice. Seeing the vast variety of materials, styles and possibilities will inspire our imagination, and help us to envision the crowns we will make for ourselves.  This craft is a fun and lighthearted way of playing with the many facets of self. Head adornments can dramatically amplify archetypal characteristics, or transform the normal traits of daily persona. Be it your wild self, your royal self, your clown self, or your most obscure self, you are welcome to explore and embody it here.     We will also discuss cultural appropriation, and how to make a headdress with awareness to cultural sensitivities.  Ka will share some techniques and tips she has learned to help guide your process, and will hold a brief Q&A     As you construct your headdress, Ka will be at hand to advise and assist the process, offer help with structure, technique, and design, and answer any questions you may have.     After the completion of our headdresses, each participant will have an opportunity to show their unique creation and share their experiences with the rest of the class. We will also set up a mini photo shoot, and get some great pictures of you in your crown to share.      This will surely be a fun experience to express yourself in a new way, make new friends, and surprise yourself at your abilities. Every participant I have had in the past, has deeply enjoyed this time together, and has been delighted with the headdress(es) they took home with them.     Note: Materials not included. A huge part, (and a fun part!) of making your own headdress is sourcing your materials. The possibilities are limitless. I will provide a few basics, yet you will need to gather the components for your piece. I find this part of the process to be inspiring, and a lot of fun. Most of my headdress ideas come from shopping for things to create with. I will send out a materials list, via email, to each participant upon registration, which also includes ideas, tips and links to find what you are looking for. It is encouraged to register early, as you will need a couple weeks to gather your supplies, especially if you plan to order any items online.     It is encouraged to register early, as you will need a couple weeks to gather your supplies, especially if you plan to order any items online.   YOUR INSTRUCTOR:   Kathryn "Ka" June     Kathryn “Ka” June is a painter, designer, and performing artist, currently residing in Asheville, NC.  She is primarily self-taught, and her former work in the healing arts is strongly influential in her craft. Her love and devotion to the healing power of beauty is the foundation of her art.  Ka’s primary vocation is oil painting, but she also enjoys a prolific career in costume design and creation. She is also a performance artist, writer, and mentor. She has performed and exhibited worldwide, and her work has been featured in numerous publications, including Paris Vogue, US Elle, Dark Beauty, Black Chalk and Mirror magazines, as well as Rolling Stone and Beautiful Bizarre online.  Her costume work has been on display for sale at the Smithsonian American Art  Museum’s Renwick Gallery, and has been exhibited digitally in the Van Wereldculturen Museums. Ka opened her own studio gallery in Asheville’s River Arts District in 2017.     “My art celebrates the beauty I experience in this world, and the inner realms I inhabit. I aim to inspire an awareness of sovereign empowerment through creativity. Through my creations, I wish to revive spirit and curiosity, and to bring a sense of healing and wonder to my audience. I hold great reverence for our collective potential to bridge Heaven and Earth through our love and imagination, for each and every one of us is a powerful creator.” - Ka www.serpentfeathers.com | IG: @serpentfeathers | FB: @serpentfeathers | Tiktok: @serpent.feathers | Pinterest: serpentfeathers     SCHEDULE:     All times are listed in EDT Friday, October 10th 2pm-5pm: Guests arrive by 5pm and check-in to their rooms. 6pm: Dinner & Orientation are part of the workshop for all participants. 7:30pm: Opening circle and presentation Saturday, October 11th 8am - 10am: Self-serve breakfast in the Dining Hall 10am: Work Session in the Art Lab 1pm: Lunch in the Dining Hall 3pm: Work Session in the Art Lab 6pm: Dinner in the Dining Hall 7:30pm: Work Session in the Art Lab Sunday, October 12th 8am - 10am: Self-serve Breakfast in the Dining Hall 10am: Work Session in the Art Lab 1pm: Lunch in the Dining Hall  2pm: Closing session and photoshoot 4pm: Workshop ends 6pm: CoSM closes CoSM and Entheon are open weekly on Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 12pm - 6pm when CoSM Grounds close. Strange Attractor: The Hallucinatory Life of Terence McKenna - Book Talk

Sat, Oct 18 at 2:00 PM
TBA

Event Information

Strange Attractor: The Hallucinatory Life of Terence McKenna Visionary Salon with Graham St. John  Saturday October 18th, 2025 2PM - 5PM   ABOUT THE EVENT: Graham St John discusses his new book Strange Attractor: The Hallucinatory Life of Terence McKenna  (with a foreword by Erik Davis, MIT Press, Oct 7, 2025). Terence McKenna (1946-2000) was the 20th century’s psychedelic renaissance man. More than twenty-five years since his untimely passing, across the virtual popstream and in networked communities dedicated to his “small mouth noises,” McKenna’s magnetism endures. As the first biography of this stand-up philosopher, rogue scholar, and surreal oracle, Strange Attractor detects the signal behind the noise. Perfecting his rugged philosophy on the role of psychedelics in evolution, consciousness, and time, McKenna was a riotous provocateur who charted the edges of mind and matter with razor wit and poetic charm. Described by Dennis McKenna as “the definitive biography of Terence,” the book offers a hallucinatory chronicle of the life, work, and legacy of this bold cartographer of the weird. Accessing original documents and letters, featuring rare photographs and artworks, sharing previously untold stories from over eighty people, Strange Attractor chronicles one of the most celebrated and yet least understood figures of the late twentieth century. Neither exalting nor condemning its subject, it documents the evolution of an altered statesman whose mellifluous voice affected multitudes and continues to haunt the present.  Book sold and signed by the author at the event ($35.00 - cash only).   Praise Graham St John is our best contemporary historian of psychedelic culture. This biography is filled with wonders, striking the perfect balance between historical accuracy and sympathetic engagement. ~Wouter J. Hanegraaff, Professor of History of Hermetic Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam This enrapturing book is psychoactive in all the best ways. You don’t know Terence McKenna until you’ve read Strange Attractor. ~R. U. Sirius, cofounder of Mondo 2000 When Terence passed in 2000, we all thought that Humpty Dumpty had fallen and lay shattered everywhere. With painstaking diligence, St John has put him back together again for the benefit of generations to come. ~Dr. Bruce Damer, Astrobiologist and President of The Center for MINDS Beautifully written and impossible to put down . . . A real triumph in the art of biography. ~Libbie Grant, bestselling author of The Prophet’s Wife, The Ragged Edge of Night (as Olivia Hawker), and other novels   About the Author: Graham St John Graham St John, PhD, is an anthropologist and historian specialising in the study of transformational events, movements, and figures. The latest among his ten books is Strange Attractor: The Hallucinatory Life of Terence McKenna (MIT Press, 2025), a biography of the life, work, and legacy of one of the most celebrated and yet least understood figures in intellectual history. Other titles include Mystery School in Hyperspace: A Cultural History of DMT, Global Tribe: Technology, Spirituality and Psytrance, and FreeNRG: Notes from the Edge of the Dancefloor. Graham is Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Media, Humanities and the Arts at the University of Huddersfield, UK. He is Executive Editor of Dancecult: Journal of Electronic Dance Music Culture and a curator of the speaker’s program at Chambok House, Ozora Festival, Hungary. His website is: www.edgecentral.net Order options for Strange Attractor: The Hallucinatory Life of Terence McKenna Book will be sold and signed by the author at the event ($35.00 - cash only).   SCHEDULE:  All times are listed in EDT Saturday, October 18th, 2025 12 PM: CoSM opens to the public 1 PM: Registration opens 2 PM - 5 PM: Afternoon Visionary Salon in the CoSM Art Lab 6 PM: CoSM closed   ADMISSION: $25.00 online / $30 at the door Includes entry to Entheon and CoSM   Getting To CoSM: CoSM is 65 miles north of New York City and accessible by Metro North Train leaving hourly from Grand Central Station. Developed by early visionary European renaissance masters such as Hieronymus Bosch and Van Eyck, this indirect painting process was revived and reinterpreted by the Austrian painter Ernst Fuchs in the 1950’s.   ‘Paradise Tree’ by Ernst Fuchs   Fundamentals of the Mischtechnik have been adopted by many painters working with fantastic and visionary subject matter, as the transparencies and use of light in the development of a painting are exquisite and lend to an ease of rendering the subties, transparencies, and complexities of visionary experiences.   The Great Wave of Trainsformation, acrylic, casein & oil on canvas 4x6’, 2020-21, Amanda Sage & Joe Bob Merritt   Amanda was first introduced to this method in 1996 by Michael Fuchs and Philip Rubinov-Jacobson, which led to a 2 year apprenticeship with Michael Fuchs. She then worked for 10 years as a painting assistant to Ernst Fuchs. Since 2011, Amanda has taught workshops based on this technique while continually integrating and evolving the MixTek approach in her own work.   Ernst Fuchs, Amanda Sage & Michael Fuchs 2013 - Vienna at the Galerie 10   Amanda will guide participants in her approach to the Mischtechnik, which she refers to as 'Painting with Light.' During the seminar we will explore various techniques and materials through lectures and hands-on experience while creating paintings using basic and advanced concepts of this process of in-direct painting.    Sequence example of the development of a painting, Amanda Sage   Mischtechnik color charts; layers of transparent color glaze create new hues, depth and luminosity   While participants can choose their subjects, Amanda & Joe Bob encourage working on self-portraits from a mirror, as this project offers the chance to deeply study both inner and outer aspects of the self.   Drawing and underpainting stages of the Mischtechnik, Mixtek Mystics, 2024   MYSTICS   We are tripping in a temple of time, upon the altar of the ever present. Psyght Seers we Art. Amidst painting demonstrations and studio sessions, Joe Bob will deliver a series of talks on “The Science of Man’s Conscious Self Evolution”. These insights spring forth from ancient origins and arrive in the current age as a psychetechnical framework laid out by the late Dr. Bob Gibson. Drawing from over 25 years of engagement with these ideas, Joe Bob will humorously, precisely, in a rather common-folk way, share these ideas that describe techniques for investigation and experimentation, designed to be worked with in the midst of everyday life. The concepts covered in these lectures will include maps of the elements comprising the knowable aspects and behaviors of the self, the function of awareness, descriptions of obstructions to awareness, and ways to integrate the ideas into one’s artistic practice that may contribute to one’s ability to understand one’s self in relationship with Life and thus strengthen one’s ability to function creatively.       We believe that coming together as a community creates a unique opportunity to foster deep connections and forge lasting friendships. It is within this nurturing environment that we invite you to join us, where the shared experience becomes a catalyst for inspiration and collaboration.     This workshop is designed to empower you to not only refine your artistic skills but also to explore and challenge your creative boundaries. Together, we will delve into the art of bringing visions to life and creating meaningful, transformative artwork.    Students engaged in the study of the self while painting with light, Mixtek Mystics 2024   Mixing fresh egg tempera in the Art Lab, Mixtek Mystics, 2024   Click Here to Apply   Accepted applications will receive a letter with a more detailed description of the workshop program, materials list, link to register and accommodation options at CoSM.
