He rocks your socks off with crazy guitar riffs, makes you cry expressing touching lyrics, and constantly surprises you with the depth of his musical knowledge! Known in Chicago as THE Beatles guy, Phil consistently draws diverse audiences to Beatle shows; first when playing with the Beatle Brothers, now with the Phil Angotti Band, Great Moments in Vinyl, the What4, and as a solo performer. Phil plays the Beatles catalog by heart and from the heart. The years of practice, listening and learning are evident, especially since he is great at taking requests! The Kinks, The Zombies, The Bee-Gees, Nick Drake and Buddy Holly all hold special places in his musical mind too. Phil is the current lead singer and guitar player for Material Issue, a Chicago power-pop band who made it big in the early 90s (they had videos on MTV when that was cool). Now known as Material ReIssue, opening for The Smithereens is one of his favorite moments on stage in fact! Other great moments in Phil include opening for Marshall Crenshaw, Richard Furay (Buffalo Springfield), and Eddie Money, plus the Beatles album shows. The *ahem* experience of this guy is key. His music came out first on vinyl, then cassette, 8-track, cds, then back to vinyl. Through all 14 solo albums Phils melodys shine, blending cool pop grooves with sweet harmonies. An artist who is equally informed by his classical training, love of Jazz, and childhood playing rock music (primarily with his father John Carpender), Henrys playing and writing is a charming blend of punchy, sensitive, quirky, and dripping with love for life and self expression. Henrys dedication to music making began at age 13 when he played his first gig with the much beloved local band Expo 76. Since then, through both his education and the beginning of his professional freelance career, Henry has been fortunate enough to share the stage with Dag Juhlin, Billy Harper, Robbie Fulks, Tanya Darby, Cathy Richardson, NRBQ and the Canadian Brass. Henry has also enjoyed a healthy start to a career as a private instructor and group music educator, running a small studio of dedicated middle and high schoolers across the Chicagoland area. When hes not playing or teaching, he can be found playing video games, cooking a new dish, or relaxing on Montrose beach.This show will be an opportunity to premiere new work, revisit some favorites, and share arrangements of some of Henrys favorite artists. LIVE IN THE FITZGERALDS SIDEBAR:Friday Night in the Sidebar w/ OTTER PETTEROn their latest EP Cobwebs, the Chicago, IL quartet Otter Petter charms with a beguiling blendof chiming, soaring classic mid-aughts indie rock buoyed by a measured dose of engaging popanthemics. Fittingly, the record exhorts us to search for hope withing the darkness of daily life; theundeniable melodic optimism playing perfect counterpoint to the deeply human lyricism. Shortly after inception, Otter Petter brothers Michael (guitar, vocals) and William Pritchard(drums), and Nate Lindsey (bass) was chosen by the Chicago Tribune to compete in theMetromix Rock n Vote contest. Readers voted with their hearts, and Otter Petter was chosen asone of four winning bands to play a show at Metro in Chicago.In 2008, the bands first full-length album Fireflies and Lamplights was greeted with glowingreviews. The 2010 follow up Nice Night for a Knife Fight was similarly lauded, breaking intothe CMJ Top 200 and being selected by Huffington Post as one of the top Chicago records of theyear. Following the release of the 2018 single Movies, the band began work on new material with thehopes of a new release not too far down the horizon. Though slowed by the global pandemic,Michael continued writing songs quietly in his basement. As vaccines spread and fear began tofade, the occasional fully masked jam session moved things along at a slightly less glacial pace.Soon enough, the band moved into a practice space in Ft. Knox Studios in Chicago. It was then thatthe arrangements and vibes for many of the new songs started to come into form. In 2022 the trio met Hillary Stone (keyboards) at a gig she was playing with another band. She was agreat fit right away, filling a void wed had at keyboards and vocals says Michael. The new quartetdove into the work of crafting new arrangements and was soon ready to head to the studio. To track the record, the band headed to Transient Sounds Studios and producer / engineer StevenGillis (Filter, Los Lobos). Steven really helped the band grow, particularly from a productionstandpoint tells Michael. He encouraged us to try new approaches and parts to help fully realizethese songs potential. Things like experimenting with alternative tunings, unique drum fills andparts, and vocal arrangements. He was amazing to work with. From those sessions Otter Petter is proud to bring you Cobwebs. A concise collection of undeniableearwigs, flecked with bittersweet introspection, ready to bring both joy and companionship.
