Event Information

“Billy Liar is one of my favorite songwriters. Powerful and honest.”– Tim Armstrong, Rancid In May of 2022, after a year of heavy touring across the US and Europe, Billy Liar and his band barricaded themselves into Big Dog Recordings studio just outside of Antwerp, Belgium with producer Joe McMahon (Smoke Or Fire). For seven days and nights they spilled blood, sweat, and beer into Billy’s new album, emerging only to stock up on more Brussels sprouts and cheap vodka. The end result is Crisis Actor, a cathartic ripper of a punk record about life, death, breaking up, and barely surviving the pandemic era. “I feel like we’ve all been living in crisis mode for the past few years,” Billy says about the album’s provocative title. “Hell, I’ve been doing it since I was a teenager. And I feel like a bad actor most of the time, struggling to contain all my anxieties and inconsistencies.” Billy’s previous album, Some Legacy, earned him high praise from outlets like Brooklyn Vegan, Punknews.org, and Louder Than War. And it caught the attention of one of his favorite artists: solo songsmith Frank Turner. It was a full circle moment when Frank Turner—coincidentally touring through Belgium while Billy was in the studio—joined Billy to record guest vocals on a new track called “Negroni.” A track which, synchronistically, was written with references to some of Frank’s lyrics. Other guests on Crisis Actor include keyboardist Franz Nicolay (The Hold Steady / Against Me!) and guitarist Joe McMahon (Smoke or Fire). Meanwhile, drummer Robin Guy, who has played with everyone from Faith No More to Sham 69 to the Bay City Rollers, fought through the agony of cancer and chemotherapy to supply the album’s furious rhythm. The tracks on Crisis Actor run the gamut of emotions, as evidenced by songs like “Hogmanay.” The title is a traditional term for New Year’s Eve in Billy’s native Scotland, and the song blends melancholy themes about drinking and dancing alone with a Celtic-inspired upbeat tune and lighthearted delivery. On their final night in the studio, Billy and his band gathered in the vocal booth for this song, drank heavily, threw each other into the walls, and sang themselves hoarse to create an anthem of triumphant misery. The emotional peak of the record, though, is the closing track, “Troubled Mind,” which is a stripped-down acoustic confessional. “It’s a song about owning up to the holes in my brain,” Billy explains. “The lyrics are the rawest I have ever written. So much so that I actually broke down when we were recording it. Which we kept on the album.” Crisis Actor takes the sadness and sweetness of The Cure and filters it through the angry grit of The Clash and Rancid to create a modern punk album with a wounded heart, belted through a blown out larynx. Or, as Billy himself puts it: “It’s an album for the end of the world.”

Event Information

The Real People, pioneers of the 90’s Brit pop movement, were formed by Tony and Chris Griffiths in 1988. Signed to CBS in Dec 1989 they released their eponymously named debut album including the singles Window Pane, Open Up Your Mind and The Truth in 1991. The band then embarked on a series of successful British, European, American and Japanese tours, also appearing at Glastonbury and supporting major artists such as The Pixies, David Bowie and Inspiral Carpets to name a few. The Realies (as they are known to their fans) then recorded their second album Marshmallow Lane with the help of legendary producer Jimmy Miller (Rolling Stones etc). This album provided the Top 40 single ‘Believer’. Whilst touring with Inspiral Carpets, Chris and Tony took the then Inspirals roadie Noel Gallagher under their wing, along with his brother Liam and the rest of Oasis. The Real People invited Oasis into their studio to develop and record the new band, resulting in the now famous Live Demonstration Tape which subsequently secured them a major deal with Alan McGee and Creation Records. Once signed by Creation, Chris and Tony were instrumental in the recording of Oasis' first single ‘Supersonic', with Tony providing the backing vocals. Chris also co-wrote the B-side to ‘Roll With It’ entitled ‘Rockin’ Chair' which helped set Oasis on the path to becoming world wide stars and the biggest band of the past 30 years. The Real People also inspired several other Oasis songs such as ‘Columbia' and 'Don’t Go Away’. Around this time Chris and Tony continued writing and developing other artists - including writing a Top 10 single for Cher and others. In 1996 The Real People signed to MGL Records and released their third album ‘What’s On The Outside’ which included the singles ‘Rolling Stone’, ‘Rayners Lane’ and ’People In The Telly’. The band also embarked on tours including numerous tours with their good friends Ocean Colour Scene, Paul Weller and Simple Minds. The Real People continued writing and touring for the next few years resulting in their now cult following and new albums ’Think Positive’ and ‘Monday Morning Breakdown’. The Realies continue to write, record and tour and this forthcoming tour ‘An Evening With….’ provides a very rare chance for fans old and new to see them perform their back catalogue in stripped down acoustic versions and hear some of the stories behind the songs. Support TBC Age 12+ only - age 12-17 must attend with an adult. £19.50 advance tickets

A magical concert woven from the music of dragons, hobbits, witches, warriors — and the legends they leave behind. On October 17th, hear the ancient sounds within the walls of Bradford Cathedral. In the hands of the acclaimed Mystery Ensemble, every note becomes a spell, every crescendo — a clash of destinies. Let yourself be guided by the music through: the shimmering sorrow of The Rings of Power (music by Bear McCreary) the battle cries and lullabies of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon (music by Ramin Djawadi) the hopeful themes of hobbits and fellowship (music by Howard Shore) the dark world of The Witcher (music by Marcin Przybyłowicz & Joseph Trapanese) the *mysteries of Skyrim, Stardust and Black Sails — and so much more. Performed without vocals or narration, this concert speaks the purest language — music — awakening the fantasy within us all. The concert organisers are the creative agency RED EVENTS & Distribution ltd, which makes exceptional cultural events in ancient mansions, on rooftops, in greenhouses and in other most atmospheric venues across the UK, Europe and other countries. Event Information

Scott “Wino” Weinrich is a living legend. In a way, he is the American version of Lemmy and shares many traits with the late, much-beloved metal icon. He’s always been a rebel, loner and an outsider in an outsider scene, pursuing his music without regard for popularity or acceptance. In the process, he came to be considered one of the early pioneers of American doom. All of this began when he founded THE OBSESSED back in the 70s, then pursued through his many other outfits such as Saint Vitus or Spirit Caravan. As a key part of the 80s Washington/Maryland music scene, his music earned the respect of metal, punk and crossover fans alike while often being dubbed doom metal. Looking back, it was just gritty, street-wise American metal with a cynical bent and psychedelic flair, and this is what made him the unique and timeless heavy music icon he is today. THE OBSESSED was formed in the late 1970s in Potomac, Maryland by legendary guitarist Scott “Wino” Weinrich (Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan). The band spawned in the realm of musicians/artists such as Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, The Dictators, and The Stooges. The earliest lineup consisted of Wino, bassist Mark Laue, guitarist John Reese, and drummer Dave Flood. In 1983, Wino took over vocal duties and the band became a three-piece to record the Sodden Jackal EP. The band broke up in the late 80s after Wino moved to California to join Saint Vitus. At that time, a German label, Hellhound Records, and the booking agency that had signed Saint Vitus, released The Obsessed, originally recorded in 1985, prompting Wino to reform THE OBSESSED. After multiple lineup changes, the band signed to Columbia Records in 1994 to release their third and final album, The Church Within. Despite highly acclaimed reviews, they would break up following the release, seeing Wino forming Spirit Caravan (then Shine) and other projects. In September 2011, THE OBSESSED returned to the stage at Roadburn Festival with The Church Within‘s legendary lineup of Wino, Greg Rogers, and Guy Pinhas. The band played a few more reunion shows over the next couple of years, including Hellfest Open Air in 2012 and Maryland Deathfest XI in May 2013 with bassist Reid Raley. Wino announced the full-time return of the band iin March 2016 and the band’s official signing to Relapse Records to record the follow-up to The Church Within. The new lineup originally consisted of Spirit Caravan bassist Dave Sherman and Wino’s longtime friend and former road crew member Brian Costantino (drums). On October 31st, 2016, Wino announced a new lineup change, including Bruce Falkinburg (bass) and Seraphim (guitar), making it the first time the band had been a four-piece in over thirty-five years. In 2017, THE OBSESSED unleashed Sacred, the band’s first studio album in over twenty years, further pushing the band into the annals of heavy metal history. After a few years on the road, the lineup stabilized around Brian Costantino on drums, Chris Angleberger on bass, Jason Taylor on guitar, and Scott "Wino" Weinrich at the helm. The iconic foursome is now ready to embrace this new decade in doom with their awaited fifth album "Gilded Sorrow", to be released in February 2024 as part of their new collaboration with Californian label Ripple Music. Now THE OBSESSED comes roaring back with their most rocking album of all time "Gilded Sorrow", to be released on February 16th, 2024 through independent Californian label Ripple Music. Expanded to a 4-piece with the addition of Jason Taylor on guitar, the music is more aggressive, straightforward and downright mean than ever before. Wino comments: "Adding Jason Taylor as second guitarist was one of the best decisions I've made because he's a virtuoso guitar player and I must say he contributed quite a bit of good stuff to this record." About the new album, he adds: "I think it's the heaviest thing I've ever done. Heavy in a sense as not just sludge heavy, but well-rounded. And it sounds fantastic. Everything I do with Frank Marchand gets better and better. He knows what the fuck he's doing." "Gilded Sorrow" was produced by Frank Marchand, Scott "Wino" Weinrich and Jason Taylor. Mixed and engineered by Frank Marchand and mastered by Alan Douches. "Gilded Sorrow" will be available on vinyl, CD and digital on February 16th, 2024 through Ripple Music. THE OBSESSED is:Scott "Wino" Weinrich – lead guitar, lead vocals Brian Costantino – drums, backing vocals Chris Angleberger – bass Jason Taylor – rhythm guitar  Psychlona is a four peace playing "Kebab 'n' roll desert rock from Yorkshire".
