Fri, Apr 3 at 7:00 PM
Patchwork Studios & Garrison Gallery

Event Information

The local legends that are Badcore Horns are kicking us off with our first Bank Holiday event, and it coincides with the campsite next door opening too. Badcore Horns are a trio of time travelling warriors of sound from the year 2079. They rely on their makeshift sonic weapons to form a new kind of music, blended from the sounds of history that came together to create Drum & Brass. Heavy vibe infused beats, earth shaking cybersax basslines and blazing technotrumpet to fold even the most stubborn of dimensions in half. Be sure to bring earplugs for this one! Support TBA. Patchwork Studios operate a diverse and inclusive programme of creative events. From firm festival circuit favourites, undiscovered local acts fresh on the scene, and underground DJs from across the region, to some of the most exciting acts smashing into the national limelight; you’ll find it all up at Maker Heights. These events vitally support our rural community offerings, helping us to improve social integration, while also celebrating culture and inspiring creativity. Between April and October, camping is available separately via Maker Camp website. Our Tavern within the venue is open until late during show nights, dishing out all the finest local tipples to keep you hydrated, plus Garrison Gallery are often serving up a storm of cocktails within their magical art-adorned walls next door. Lil Pizza Heaven are usually parked up on site on a Saturday evening too to keep you fuelled. Why not make a weekend of it while you’re here? The Canteen opens at 9:30am the next morning for coffee and breakfast, and during the camping season, you'll find delicious homemade scran to keep your bellies full into the evening, over by the campsite entrance. The twin fishing villages of Kingsand and Cawsand are only a short walk away, as are their lovely beaches, and the Southwest Coast Path runs straight past too.

Event Information

Join us for our very first line dancing event at Patchwork Studios! The wonderful Sarah Webber will be leading the dancing, guiding you through classic line dance steps - from grapevines to toe taps - so you’ll feel confident on the floor.  Sarah will teach the footwork to a mix of well-loved tunes and newer tracks, giving everyone a chance to settle into the rhythm. We’ll pause halfway to refresh with a Dark ’n Stormy cocktail or mocktail, prepared by the team next door at the Garrison Gallery, before returning to the studio to practise and refine those moves.  Cowboy hats and Western-inspired outfits are encouraged, but entirely optional. One Dark ’n Stormy cocktail or mocktail is included in the ticket price, or a beer/cider/non-alcoholic beer if you'd prefer. The Garrison Gallery will be open next door from 7pm–11pm, serving a range of delicious cocktails, mocktails, craft beer and fine wines if you’d like to make an evening of it. Plymouth Poetry Festival writing workshop

Plymouth Poetry Festival writing workshop

Sat, Apr 18 at 4:00 PM
Patchwork Studios & Garrison Gallery

Event Information

We are thrilled to have been included in this year’s Plymouth Poetry Festival - a week-long programme of events taking place across the city and beyond. On the 18th April, from 4–6pm, renowned poet and MC Jason Butler and WORD Coordinator Charlotte Turner will host a poetry and spoken word writing and performance workshop, exploring rhyme, rhythm, and how to translate work from the page to live performance. Everyone is welcome – no prior experience of writing poetry is necessary. Following the workshop, WORD’s open mic poetry and spoken word evening will take place, where we encourage those who have written a piece during the workshop to take to the stage and perform. Home to WORD poetry and spoken word nights for the past seven years, Patchwork Studios has become a thriving and welcoming space for poets to perform, in what we’re often told is ‘one of the nicest spaces to speak in, with the most attentive audience’. Spaces for the workshop are limited to 20 places, please select a free ticket to register. The Plymouth Poetry Festival was founded by Mimi Jones, Poppy-Jayne Jones and Jonah Corren. All three are poets themselves and were already running regular events in the city for local writers to share their work. The idea for the festival was conceived as a way to bring together and shine a light on the thriving poetry scene in Plymouth. With a grant from POP’s Collectives Fund, Mimi, Poppy and Jonah distributed funding to local poetry organisers to run their own events during a designated week in April 2024. Events and organisations featured in the festival included The Providence Poets, Wonderzoo, Word of Plymouth, Jawbone Press, Spork, Pyre, Queer Out Loud and Poetry at the PPL. Alongside these was an exciting programme of writing workshops, advice surgeries run by Literature Works, poetry events for children at The Box, and a ‘Walking Through Poetry’ exhibition at RAAY Gallery, alongside the festival poetry bookshop. For 2026, Mimi, Poppy and Jonah secured additional funding and support to grow the festival further. Literature Works came on board as a partner, offering experience and expertise in delivering larger-scale literature programmes, and Plymouth City Council provided the resources needed to take the festival to the next level. Alongside another successful grant application from POP, this has set the stage for 2026 to be more expansive and ambitious than ever, while retaining the grassroots spirit that makes Plymouth’s poetry scene so special. Between 6–7pm there will be a break for participants to grab some food (with a food truck on site or shops in the next village), and the cocktail bar next door will be open from 7pm. Many thanks to POP, Literature Works and Plymouth City Council for funding the festival and for their continued support of the arts. Patchwork Studios runs a diverse and inclusive programme of creative events. From firm festival-circuit favourites and undiscovered local acts fresh on the scene, to underground DJs from across the region and some of the most exciting artists breaking into the national spotlight, you’ll find it all at Maker Heights. These events play a vital role in supporting our rural community programme, helping to improve social integration while celebrating culture and inspiring creativity. Between April and October, camping is available separately via the Maker Camp website. Our Tavern, located within the venue, is open until late on show nights, serving the finest local tipples to keep you refreshed. Garrison Gallery often serves a storm of cocktails within its magical, art-adorned walls next door, and Pickle and Pit will be on site on to keep you fuelled. Why not make a weekend of it while you’re here? The Canteen opens at 9.30am the following morning for coffee and breakfast, and during the camping season you’ll find delicious homemade food served by the campsite entrance to keep you going into the evening. The twin fishing villages of Kingsand and Cawsand are only a short walk away, with their beautiful beaches, and the South West Coast Path runs right past the site.
