Event Information

Doors 7:30pm | Tickets £16+booking fee | Malt Room Standing With this powerful collaboration in full swing, 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Dub Princess and Hotsteppas. The duo have a string of exciting releases lined up, beginning with a brand new single dropping in May, complete with a heavyweight dub mix from the legendary Nick Manasseh. June will see the release of a genre-defying EP, weaving Indian classical influences into a deep dub foundation, featuring the talented Atilla Manju. Then, in October, fans can look forward to another highly anticipated EP—an exploration of roots and future sounds—which will be accompanied by a celebratory tour across the UK and Europe. Each release showcases their evolving sound and commitment to pushing boundaries, while staying rooted in the conscious messages that have always been at the heart of their music. In addition to her work with Hotsteppas, Dub Princess continues to carve her path as a prolific solo artist with a steady flow of collaborations set to drop throughout the year. Teaming up once again with long-time musical allies, she has a string of fresh releases in the pipeline that showcase her versatility and deep connection to the global bass and conscious music scene. Expect soulful, sun-drenched vibes with producer Isaac Chambers, whose lush, downtempo grooves provide the perfect backdrop for her reflective lyricism. She also reunites with Illiterate for a series of tracks that blend jazzy beats, lo-fi textures, and laid-back fire, highlighting her smooth vocal agility and conscious wordplay. A new project with Blue Zone Hifi taps into heavyweight dub and sound system culture, delivering raw energy and deep, sub-driven rhythms. And later in the year, a vibrant collaboration with Nikau Te Huki will bring a fusion of Māori soul, roots reggae, and earthy electronic elements—reflecting both artists’ commitment to cultural storytelling and spiritual connection through music. Each release adds a new layer to Dub Princess’s ever-evolving soundscape, reinforcing her position as a powerful voice in the international underground scene and a bridge between genres, cultures, and communities.

John Cleese Packs It In (15) (Cinema)

Sun, Nov 16 at 5:00 PM
Kendal Brewery Arts Centre

Event Information

Will he make it home … or is this the end of the road? One of the most recognisable figures in British comedy, John Cleese’s career spans six decades – from his early days with the Cambridge Footlights to co-founding Monty Python, co-creating Fawlty Towers, and writing and starring in the Oscar-nominated “A Fish Called Wanda”. His unique brand of black humour has made him a global icon and intergalactic treasure. At the age of eighty five, John Cleese sets off on what might be his final European tour – five countries, sixteen cities, twenty-three shows, and retaining just two original body parts. “John Cleese Packs It In” is a wry, behind-the-scenes portrait of a comedy legend on the road, battling various ailments, chaotic travel, and his own stubborn refusal to stop. Spanning six weeks on the road, the film captures Cleese unfiltered and on the move – riffing on life, fame, and the absurdity of getting old in front of thousands of fans. As he reflects on a stage career that began in 1963, the question lingers: is this the end of the road? With unique and intimate access and showing unexpected tenderness, this is a documentary about legacy, laughter, and the dignity of bowing out… however reluctantly.
