Exciting events and experiences happening this month in Ft Lauderdale.
This high-octane program celebrates the magnetic style of Tony Award-winning choreographer Justin Peck, where ballet meets pop, pattern, and pulse. In Year of the Rabbit sweeping ensembles create a kaleidoscope of movement, set to Sufjan Stevens' electrifying score. Chutes and Ladders, a playful duet created for MCB, reveals the music's inner rhythms through crisp, inventive choreography. And Heatscape, Peck's love letter to Miami's Wynwood District, bursts with color, speed, and the heat of a flirtatious chase, set against a bold backdrop by artist Shepard Fairey. Led by Maestra Sebrina Alfonso, South Florida Symphony Orchestra's 28th season, Juxtapositions, ignites with a powerful reminder that even in darkness, light always finds its way. Beethoven's freedom-fighting Egmont Overture opens the evocative evening, as GRAMMY winner Zuill Bailey's virtuosic cello playing resounds with intense emotion in Saint-Saëns' fiery Cello Concerto No. 1 and Massenet's hushed "Méditation" from Thaïs. Capping the evening is Brahms' Symphony No. 1 - a profound work that took the composer decades to complete, beautifully articulates one's journey from darkness to triumph.
