Integrative Systemic Family Therapy with Family Ruptures: A Personal and Therapeutic Journey Facilitator: Glenn Larner  How is it possible to stay connected to family members in the face of an ongoing clash of philosophies, values and beliefs, which have contributed to family conflict and a breakdown of relationships? This is a complex and disturbing issue for the present time that affects individuals, families and the wider culture including us as systemic therapists at a personal and professional level. The workshop will present an integrative systemic family therapy approach to working with family ruptures. It will examine the family therapy literature on the topic and present a detailed practice example for an adult client with a complex mental health presentation. Participants will be invited to workshop these ideas in reflective small and large group activities focused on the person of the therapist and explore their application in the practice setting. While the primary theme of the workshop is working with family ruptures from a personal and therapeutic perspective, a secondary theme considers an integrative approach to systemic family therapy especially when working with an individual. Dr. Glenn Larner Website: https://www.glennlarner.com/ Email: glarner@aapt.net.au Dr Glenn Larner is a senior clinical psychologist and family therapist from Sydney, Australia with over 4 decades of experience working in child and adolescent mental health services and across the age range in private practice. His integrative therapy approach with individuals, couples and families is informed by systemic, narrative, psychodynamic and dialogic frameworks as well as a range of therapies including neuroscience, Mindfulness, ACT and CBT. Working from an ethic of hospitality this recognizes the therapist's responsibility to be effective while giving priority to the therapeutic relationship and enhancing a person’s own narrative voice. Glenn been editor of the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy for 15 years since 2010 and has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters including several publications in the Journal of Family Therapy. He is co-editor with David Pare of Collaborative Practice in Psychology and Therapy (2004; New York: Haworth).   Over the years Glenn has been a regular presenter at Australian Family Therapy conferences and at several UK AFT conferences. In 2017 he conducted a day workshop on Integrating Family Therapy in Adolescent Depression and Self-Harm for Newcastle upon Tyne AFT, which was well attended by professionals from a wide range of backgrounds including social work, psychology, psychiatry, mental health nursing and counseling. In March 2025 Glenn gave a well-received online webinar for AFT U.K. on the topic of Healing Family Ruptures: A Personal and Therapeutic Journey. Recent Publications: Larner, G. (2024).
