Home by Samm-Art Williams returns to the stage for a second year in a compelling revival presented by the Hampton University Repertory Theatre/Hampton Players under the direction of VJ Banks. Rooted in the rich traditions of Southern storytelling and Black oral history, Home is a poignant and often humorous exploration of love, memory, resilience, and the meaning of belonging. Set in a rural Southern town, the play follows the life of Cephus Miles, whose journey from youthful optimism to hard-earned wisdom reflects the broader experience of a community shaped by migration, struggle, and enduring hope. Through lyrical language, vivid characterizations, and narrative monologues that feel both intimate and communal, Williams crafts a theatrical tapestry that honors the voices of everyday people whose stories are too often overlooked.
