With a strong emphasis on proper technique and development of skill, dancers can further their dance experience through participation in performance and competition opportunities throughout the year. Classes encourage and ignite interest in the dancers to reach their potential through positive coaching and reinforcement.Our Instructor Meredith Lyons, T.C.R.G., is the owner and lead instructor of Lyons Academy of Irish Dance. A Long Beach, California native, Meredith’s dance journey began in 1993 with classes in San Pedro and Orange County. During her competitive career, she qualified five times for the prestigious World Irish Dance Championships, competing both in solo and team events. While competing, Meredith discovered her passion for teaching, co-instructing alongside her mentor, Doireann Maoileidigh-Hoy. Her performance highlights include dancing with the band "Men of Worth," a featured spot on "Jib Jab Media," and an appearance on the hit TV show "Scrubs." In 2006, Meredith graduated from California State University Long Beach and retired from competition after her final appearance at the 2007 World Championships. She then dedicated herself to earning her T.C.R.G. certification, and in 2010, founded Lyons Academy of Irish Dance. BRIAN CALDWELL - LEAD VOCALS / RHYTHM GUITAR As the founding member of Highland Way Brian is an enthusiastic and energetic singer and rhythm guitar player. Immersed in Celtic music while growing up in Glasgow, Scotland and having specialized in sound engineering at the prestigious Strathclyde University, Brian hit the road. Now residing in North San Diego County in California, he regularly plays live fronting the 2 / 4 / 6 piece Highland Way. Brian has successfully lead Highland Way to some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the largest indoor theater in the USA, the 3000 seat Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, the Redlands Bowl 5000 seat amphitheater, joined Calle 13 playing a 20,000 seat audience, 8 million worldwide, at the Latin Grammies in Las Vegas and many others. When not performing, writing or producing under the ‘Highland Way Productions’ label you can find him shooting world class photos, walking his dog or riding waves. PAUL CASTELLANOS - FIDDLE / MANDOLIN / GUITAR / BANJO / STRINGS Lead Fiddle / mandolin / banjo/ bass and most anything with strings. Paul's been playing fiddle and mandolin for over 40 years. Somewhere in that time he also picked up guitar, bass, and banjo. Paul's an accomplished song writer and arranger having played with 'The Chieftains', 'The Young Dubliners', 'Blended Spirits', 'Ken O' Mally', and regularly performed in LA's oldest Irish Pub Molly Malone's with 'Garrison White', and 'Glen Cornick', original bass player for 'Jethro Tull'. He's also joined 'The Wolftones', 'Willy Clancy', Tommy Makem', and 'Billy Connelly'. Along with Brian the pair have been the house band for the Best Irish Pub In San Diego County, O’ Sullivan’s in Escondido for the last 20 years. When not on the stage you can find him leading Celtic Sessions around San Diego County.
