Stone Hall Sessions is pleased and proud to present Russell deCarle - LIVE in Concert - "A fluent mix of blues, jazz and R&B tinged western swing." It’s late, and the bar is crowded. The music is loud, and people are dancing. The bartender needs a smoke, and you could use a smile, a conversation, a moment of recognition… But you are alone in this crowd, along with the singer Russell deCarle. Like him — and his music — you are holding it together with equal measures of heartbreak and hope. So join Russell; sink into his songs that touch the heart, celebrate the truth, and provide warmth and company in the noise of the crowd. As lead vocalist and bassist of iconic Canadian country roots band Prairie Oyster, deCarle is no stranger to awards and accolades. Over their career the 2008 CCMA Hall of Honour inductees have racked up an impressive list of JUNO and Canadian Country Music Awards, gold and platinum selling records and number one singles. As a songwriter deCarle has also been honoured with two SOCAN Song of the Year Awards. Once in 1994, for Prairie Oyster’s first number one single ‘Such A Lonely One’, and then again in 2008 for ‘One Way Track’, his co-write with Canadian folk legend, Willie P. Bennett. The truth is, though, that Prairie Oyster was always more than a “country” band, and deCarle’s warm, burnished and intimate voice has always honoured an eclectic range of songs. True to form, he offers a fluent collection of songs that mix southern soul and restrained balladry, with obvious touches of jazz, blues, old-school country, and western swing. Russell deCarle’s songwriting has absorbed all those influences, and he avidly listens to smooth soul singers and the men and women who made early country music so compelling. The Old Church Theatre reopens its doors after our winter break with a special performance by Rick Fines! Rick had a packed house for his concert in June of 2024, ahead of relocating to Germany for a few years. Now he's stopping back home for a show that you don't want to miss! He's visited a dozen countries in the year and a half since he left and he'll have stories and a couple new songs, no doubt... Oh, and there might be a couple of birthdays in the house!
