Ethan Lavenstein Quintet Hosted by - Julie Berghofer Ethan Lavenstein is a 23 year old musician, composer, and producer based in the LA/OC area. At the age of 10, he started playing the trumpet in his school's band class. He would decide to pursue this and music more generally in the future. Since then, Ethan has gotten to work with artists such as Wesley Franklin, Allie Page, MKY, Greg Shilling, Jonny Kosmo, and more. He has played at venues such as the Greek Theater, Echoplex, Anaheim Convention Center, Secret Tides Punta Cana, and many more in the LA area. While heavily inspired by Jazz greats like Lee Morgan, Herbie Hancock, and Freddie Hubbard, Ethan takes from a plethora of other musicians/genres. Some of his favorites include The Beatles, Tyler the Creator, Hailey Heynderickx, Emile Mosseri, and Joyce Manor. Ethan graduated from California State University Northridge in 2024 with a degree in Jazz Studies under the tutelage of Howie Shear, Josh Aguiar, Tina Raymond, and Gary Fukushima. He has been working as a freelance musician, educator, and artist ever since. ___________________ The Los Angeles Jazz Society has placed an emphasis on young musicians and are proud to introduce you to the next generation of jazz artists each month during this series. The POV Cyph3r is what happens when pole collides with the pulse of cypher culture. Inspired by underground rap cyphers, this event invites pole artists from all walks—club, studio, street, and stage—to step into the circle and express their point of view through movement. From slow burns to explosive drops, no two performances are the same—because this isn’t a showcase.It’s a cypher of perspective. Minus the judges. Come dressed like you just stumbled into a late-night street cypher on a Brooklyn block—think Timbs, track suits, leather bombers, denim, and fur—because you’re about to be transported into a gritty and raw era where street artistry meets pole.
