Re-Imagining Our Spaces: Thinking Critically About Environments (Elgin)

Facilitated by: Ally Scott, RECE, Strive Manager, and Kathy Harris, RECE No one knows your environment and the way children move through the space better than you. This session invites educators to pause, reflect, and critically examine their learning spaces to ensure they are intentional, inclusive, and aligned with pedagogical values. Together, we will explore key questions that spark meaningful conversations about the physical and emotional environment we offer children. Through a lens that considers the child, the family, the educator, and our guiding documents, we will investigate the elements that contribute to a responsive and thoughtful environment. This workshop will support you in: Engaging in reflective dialogue about your current space Identifying ways to align your environment with your educational values Considering diverse perspectives, including those of children and families Exploring how intentional design choices support children's learning and well-being If you are ready to reimagine your space with purpose and care—this session is for you. Kathy Harris (she/her) (right) is a Certified Registered Early Childhood Educator who has worked exclusively for London Bridge Child Care Services for her entire 30 year career. A graduate of Fanshawe College, Kathy currently works at Huron Heights Early Learning and Care Centre in London Ontario as the Pedagogical Lead. Kathy spends her time at Huron Heights working alongside her team of nearly 30 Early Years Practitioners to lead a care centred pedagogy with their 127 children. Her passions include reimagining, enhancing, and creating early year’s environments, processes and systems while supporting community initiatives through Strive’s PLC. Ally Scott (she/her) (right) is the Project Manager of Strive which supports capacity building in the early years across London, Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford. Ally also teaches part-time in the Early Childhood Education program at Fanshawe College. Throughout her 15 year career, she has been a preschool educator, a cruise ship kids councilor, a Director of a child care centre, a curriculum trainer, and a Professional Learning facilitator, to name a few. Ally proudly sits on multiple committees and is dedicated to advocating for the profession. She is a mom to Macklin and Scottie, and loves hearing them giggle more than anything in the world.
