Nick Parker

Nick Parker

Fri, Mar 13 at 7:30 PM
The Green Room

Event Information

Glastonbury based Nick Parker started gigging in his early teens playing mandolin and singing in folk/rock/skiffle band ‘Why?’, and spent the next 10 years bouncing around on stages at hundreds of venues and festivals around the UK and Europe. In 1998 Nick called it a day with Why? and started guitar band ‘Tobermory’. After various false starts, a few flirtations with industry ‘big’ boys and a few tours in Germany, Tobermory played their last gig in 2004. In 2010 Nick embarked on a solo career and has since enjoyed over 30 tours around the UK and Europe, releasing five full-length albums along the way, many songs from which have been featured on BBC6 Music among many other radio stations. Nick’s songs are often tongue-in-cheek and cheerful, and on the rare occasion when fun IS poked (usually at himself) it is always with a wry smile and an element of satire. The audience are often encouraged to be a part of the show, from holding up lyrics or creating sound effects, to providing basslines or collectively being Nick’s duet partner. Although primarily a solo effort Nick often plays with his band ‘Nick Parker and the False Alarms’ which is a folky/rocky/country affair using guitars, fiddle, pedal steel, banjo, mandolin, cornet, accordion, keys, whistles, pipes, bass and drums, often with various members switching instruments when space permits. At a recent gig the band were described as ‘A British Arcade Fire’, something that Nick was very pleased about. At that same gig they teamed up with Les ‘Fruitbat’ Carter to perform a 9-piece version of CarterUSM’s Only Living Boy in New Cross, something that now happens whenever Les is in the building. Nick also often gigs as a duo with fiddle player Ben Wain. Over the years Nick has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with The Wedding Present, Bright Eyes, Chris Difford and Tom Robinson among others, and has recently provided tour support for Levellers, Ginger Wildheart & the Sinners, and Skinny Lister. During the pandemic Nick kept himself, and others, busy with an online series called Stranger Tunes, in which he collaborated with many musicians including members of Pearl Jam, Levellers, The Wonder Stuff, Boomtown Rats, Blossoms and many more. When Nick’s not gigging, he is usually busy making videos for his songs which include a very time consuming lyric video made using spaghetti letters, and an even more time consuming stop motion animation of a live gig which was selected for inclusion in the Leeds International Film Festival. Nick recently made a return to video making and his animations were featured on Levellers’ latest album Peace (DVD version). Helicon & Man of Moon
music

Helicon & Man of Moon

Sat, Mar 21 at 7:00 PM
The Georgian Theatre, Stockton-on-Tees

Event Information

HELICON Helicon blend neo-psych-rock with sitars, electronica, ambient soundscapes and irresistible grooves to take psychedelic music into fresh, new territory. They channel their love for 60s counterculture and eclectic, global music influences to create a modern and distinctive sound. Helicon was formed by brothers John-Paul and Gary Hughes in East Kilbride, Glasgow. They signed to Fuzz Club in 2017 and have released 3 studio albums, 2 live albums, 2 EPs and 2 stand-alone singles to date. Over the last few years, the band have been featured on BBC Radio 6 Music and previously collaborated on recordings with Tony Doogan (Mogwai), Will Carruthers (Spacemen 3, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spiritualized, Dead Skeletons), Mark Gardener (Ride) and LA-based DJ/producer Al Lover. MAN OF MOON Since their beginning Man of Moon have been a standout live act. The Glasgow-based duo possess an extraordinary talent for cross-pollinating genres and styles but their sound is not hybridised, rather they are a synthesis of their influences; a pure sonic distillation of what has come before. You hear the mesmeric drones of Mogwai, the dynamic shifts of Radiohead, the harmonic angularity of Tool, the industrial amalgam of Nine Inch Nails, even hints of Pink Floyd’s austere and abstract lyricism. Man of Moon are so much music in one band. And yet they’ve always sounded uniquely themselves; there is deep intentionality in every song’s construction. Neil Young at 80 - A Celebration

Sun, Mar 29 at 4:00 PM
The Georgian Theatre, Stockton-on-Tees

Event Information

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a tribute event - You will definitely hear songs written and recorded by Neil Young as well as the artists original music inspired by the great man. Long may he run - NEIL YOUNG turned 80 in November 2025 and we think that calls for something of a celebration which is why we’ve gathered together a bunch of fantastic musicians to pay homage to one of the greats of the music scene.  In 2017 LEE MADDISON provided the soundtrack for the BBC documentary 'Life of a Mountain: Blencathra'. Airplay on BBC 6 music followed and in the same year, Maddison's provocative dig at the music business 'Charlatans and Blaggers' was given the track of the week slot on BBC Tees. 'Lee Maddison weaves one of the most beautiful tapestries imaginable.’ - Maverick Magazine BUCK CURRAN is an American singer-songwriter-guitarist, record producer, painter and guitar maker. Curran's acoustic and electric guitar playing is characterized by the extensive use of low alternate tunings, slide, and his use of the EBow. The EBow uses a magnetic feedback circuit to vibrate strings without touching them, allowing players to sustain notes indefinitely. Curran's music is associated with the Psychedelic Folk genre, though his musical origins stem from performing traditional and original Blues and Folk in the 1990s.  ‘Curran is able to turn a well-known folk standard into a journey through a beautiful, treacherous landscape. His talent is an alchemical one.’ - KLOF  ‘No Love Is Sorrow is a beautiful piece of work….Curran sings with the gravelly decorum of Mark Lanegan.’ - UNCUT STAITHE is the creative partnership of Bridie Jackson (composer and singer) and Nick Pierce (classical viola and synth) Their sound has been described as ‘dreamy and intimate.’ Their debut album, Flowers was released in May 2025, self-produced at their Newcastle home, it blends classical, folk and minimalist electronica and explores themes of honesty, hope and quiet resilience. ‘Their debut album is real stop you in your tracks stuff.’ - The Crack JASMINE WEATHERILL is a solo artist who is rapidly establishing a reputation for her fine singing and playing. Also vocalist with NEEB who have received critical acclaim and support from Amazing Radio, their sound has been described as a ‘soulful, jazz-tinged slice of mesmeric dream pop full of blissful melodies and mellow energy.’ Travelling in from outside of Stockton-on-Tees and fancy making a night of it?
