We just had to have these guys back !!! They raised the roof and filled the dancefloor last time they performed here at The Barrel House Ballroom Totnes. The Jazz Funk Emporium first emerged in 2019 and includes some of the finest musicians with a slant and interest towards jazz funk in the Southwest. It’s a band dedicated to the funkier side of life. Saxophonist and band leader, Neil has had an interest in Jazz Funk for a long time, particularly being a huge fan of funk saxophonists such as Maceo Parker and Michael Brecker, but also influenced by Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters and also the James Taylor Quartet (JTQ). This band, born out of Neil’s highly accomplished and successful jazz quartet, The Neil Maya Quartet, brings an enhanced line up: multiple keyboards, keyta and vocal effects from Tom Ball, electric bass from Kevin Sanders, drums from Gary Evans and adding Jesse Molins on guitar and Ben Waring on percussion to the mix.You can expect to hear great tunes by artists such as The Average White Band, The Crusaders, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Ronnie Jordan, James Taylor Quartet (JTQ), Brecker Brothers, Marcus Miller and Vulfpeck, performed with great flair by this awesome band.

We are very excited to welcome Zach Thompson to The Barrel House Ballroom. For fans of early Bob Dylan, Bert Jansch and John Martyn. In an age where everything appears ever more disposable, Zach Thompson’s music has the rare feeling of being called down from the fires of heaven. Born and raised in West Yorkshire, but now based in London, he’s long been making his mark in the burgeoning South-East London folk scene. A truly enigmatic songwriter, one who almost appeared to arrive fully formed, Zach moves between intimate folk and freewheeling jazz at a moment's notice. Upcoming EP 'On Platt's Eyot' - via Breakfast Records - is a rolling, ruminative body of work whose symbolic lyrics bounce between the universal and the local, resisting any straightforward interpretation.
