My Dead Friend Zoe

MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy that follows the journey of Merit, a US Army Afghanistan veteran who is at odds with her family thanks to the presence of Zoe, her dead best friend from the Army. Despite the persistence of her VA group counselor, the tough love of her mother and the levity of an unexpected love interest, Merits cozy-dysfunctional friendship with Zoe keeps the duo insulated from the world. That is until Merits estranged grandfather- holed up at the family-owned ancestral lake house- begins to lose his way and is in need of the one thing he refuses- help. At its core, this is about a complicated friendship, a divided family and the complex ways in which we process grief. My Dead Friend Zoe is rated R for language. The film also includes intense scenes, themes of suicide, and mentions of drugs, alcohol, and smoking. While it does not have strong sexual content, there are a few frightening and intense scenes, including war flashbacks and discussions of trauma.

The line-up is pedigree and generational, featuring Berry Duane Oakley from The Allman Betts Band, Les Dudek from The Allman Brothers Family, Mark Karan from Bob Weir/ Rat Dog & The Other Ones, Scott Guberman from Phil Lesh & Friends, and Pete Lavezzoli from JGB, Jazz Is Dead & Oteil & Friends. Together, these accomplished musicians skillfully recreate the magic of The Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers bands co-billed concerts during the period of 1969 to 1973.
