Described by London Jazz as "bold, adventurous, and uncompromising" Raph Clarkson is an outstanding trombonist, improviser, composer / arranger & workshop leader who believes in the power of music to connect communities and collaboration. As well as releasing several critically-acclaimed albums with various record labels, national organisations and top orchestras such as The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Britten Sinfonia regularly commission his work.   He will be joining the house band of Claire McAllister (vocals), Volodymyr Vasylenko (electric accordion) and Martin Pyne (drums and percussion) in a celebration of great musical heros and loved ones.   His guiding principle is the power in music to form connections in community and collaboration. Raph has an inviting, open spirit and his playing and approach celebrates loved ones, mentors and musical inspirations. Raph is currently involved in a variety of projects across multiple genres, including Isaac Birituro & The Rail Abandon, a Ghana/U.K. collaboration for which he arranges horns, plays trombone and synths, and which was released to critical acclaim on the Wah Wah 45s record label. He has also featured on albums by Laura Jurd (Edition Records), Overground Collective (Babel Label), WorldService Project (Rare Noise Records) as well as his own projects LEDLEY (Impossible Ark Records), The Dissolute Society, RESOLUTE (Babel Label) and South Africa-U.K. collaboration Equal Spirits, who last year released their album 'Wise and Waiting' on the Ubuntu Music label, to critical acclaim.Raph has also been commissioned to write music and words for Sinfonia Viva (Derby, U.K.), the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Britten Sinfonia, Britten Pears Arts, the London Sinfonietta, Spitalfields Music, Engines Orchestra and Mid Wales Music Trust, and leads projects for a variety of organisations in the U.K. including the Bristol Recovery Orchestra, Travelling Light Theatre, Bristol Old Vic, Bristol Beacon and Mindful Music.
