The Lawyer Show is Nightwood's main annual fundraiser. Every year, supported by a team of directors, designers and vocal coaches, up to 40 members of the legal community rehearse for three months to be able to stage an exhilarating, entertaining, professionally-led production. Since The Lawyer Show's inception in 2010, over 300 legal professionals have appeared in 16 shows in support of Nightwood. Every ticket purchased includes a donation portion, for which patrons receive a tax-receipt. We thank you for supporting our fundraiser, which helps Nighwood further cultivate, create, and produce extraordinary theatre by women and gender-expansive artists. This season we invite you to join us for the 2026 Lawyer Show "GREASE", the electrifying musical from Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Vancouver Civic Theatres is hosting guided tours of the Orpheum, one of the most beautiful concert halls in North America. The Orpheum, a designated National Heritage Site, was built in 1927. Each year the theatre hosts international musicians, popular concerts and unique events; it is also home to the beloved Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. The 90 minute walking tours are led by the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame and reveal many secrets of the iconic theatre's history; including the time Frank Sinatra was almost kicked out of the theatre for breaking dressing room lights while practising his golf swing! Reservations are strongly encouraged as tours frequently fill up in advance. Walk-up patrons will be accepted at the door as space permits. If the cost of a reserved admission is a barrier to your participation, please contact vct.presents@vancouver.ca to explore options for support. As this tour takes place in an operating theatre, some sections of the building may be inaccessible. This program is presented in partnership with the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame and Downtown Van. *Please meet guides at the Granville Street entrance. *Please note that this tour includes walking and stair climbing. *Photography is permitted, though this tour is not suitable for photography groups or clubs. For information on photo and film shoots, please contact VCTbooking@vancouver.ca for rental rates.

Facilitated by: Charity Paolini BA, BEd, MSEd, SSW “Renegade Rules” will challenge the status quo and explore how to support confident and compassionate children. Participants will be encouraged to remove their adult lenses and redefine many of their long held “norms”. This session examines the language we use to encourage and motivate children. While praise is often well-intentioned, certain phrases can undermine confidence, reduce persistence, or shift focus away from learning. Together, we’ll explore the impact of common encouraging language and identify strategies that better support self-confidence, intrinsic motivation, and resilience in young children. While commitment to attending all sessions in this series is not required, it is strongly encouraged, as the sessions build a shared language and consistent approach to supporting children’s social and emotional development. Charity Paolini has been supporting children, parents, educators and families for over 15 years. With training and certifications in mental health, well-being, education and parenting, she brings both expertise and a genuine passion for helping folks navigate real-life challenges. Charity is dedicated to creating spaces where everyone feels supported, connected, and equipped with practical, evidence-informed strategies they can use right away. Outside of her work, Charity is a mom and an avid gardener who finds joy in nurturing all things. Life at home is full of energy with her son and the circle of friends he brings through the door, reminding her daily of the importance of connection, patience, and humor. Three of our communitys grooviest groups, and some of our best friends, are coming together for a Thursday night party celebrating the diverse array of influences and talents that make our city so colourful. After a triumphant return at a jam-packed Lucky Bar this past December, MINDIL BEACH makes an even more triumphant return to the Victoria Ska the group founded The Jellyfish Project, promoting environmental stewardship throughout BC schools and their engaging mix of funk, folk, reggae and hip-hop have kept them in them in the hearts of the Ska & Reggae Massive during their extended hiatus, as evidenced by the sell-out crowd that filled Lucky at their return show. Now fronted by Roderick Campbell and armed with an array of newly completed songs, Mindil Beach is back and ready to reclaim their place. Also on the bill is one of the most loveable group of musical merrymakers to come out of the island, APEX BREAKS. With regular highlight appearances on our festival stages, shows up and down the island to sweaty, heavy crowds and a string of hard-funking singles, the psychedelic jungle funk monster has become one of the most reliable party-rocking outfits the city has to offer. Kicking off this celebration of Vic Citys deep grooves is our longtime allies THE NEW GROOVEMENT. For nearly 15 years, The New Groovement have been stalwarts of the west coast music scene, amassing a devoted legion of fans across the province. When The New Groovement is on stage laying down their frankly hard-hitting funked out hip-hop, youll be hard pressed to find anyone standing still. The group demands dancing and its a demand that is hard to ignore. CWith the mighty DJ SUAR3Z, fresh off her appearance at this years Garden City Grooves, keeping the party hot between sets, this is a jam-packed Thursday night party that will please groove-seekers of all shades happy and moving.

We thought wed do something extra cool for Friday of Ska s beloved reggae troubadours BEDOUIN SOUNDCLASH return to the festival for the first time since their unforgettable appearance in 2022. Its been over 25 years since the release of their debut album Root Fire and over 20 years since Sounding a Mosaic and their timeless classic When The Night Feels My Song took over the world. Their music has only gotten stronger and more textured, as evidenced by their last album We Will Meet In A Hurricane, a record packed with huge, singalong hooks and an infectious feeling. In their 25+ years on the scene, Bedouin Soundclash has pushed reggae into new spaces, being a consistent bridge between the music and audiences who may not be familiar with modern reggae of any kind. How many bands in any genre can say theyve released music with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Skints? We are so excited to welcome one of Canadas most iconic bands back to the Ship Point stage.Speaking of iconic reggae acts coming back to Victoria Ska sum like Clinton Fearon. The bassist, vocalist and lyricist for the mythical Gladiators and a session musician for legendary reggae producers Coxsone Dodd and Lee Scratch Perry, Fearon has been helping define the rhythms of reggae for over half a century! Fearon keeps the flame of reggae burning bright, still releasing powerful new music into the world, like his fantastic Jah Is Love album from last year. The record is a testament to both Fearons talent as a singer and songwriter, but to the endearing power of reggae music as a whole. Taking the stage first for this Friday night reggae party is Edmontons Afro-fusion outfit MELAFRIQUE. A truly multi-cultural and multi-influential band including members from Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Angola, Jamaica and Canada Melafrique hits a variety of genres: Jazz, R&B, Reggae, Neo-soul, all combined with different African styles of music, for a sound completely their own. Getting things heated up and keep them warm between bands is arguably the most high profile, important jungle/DnB DJs, MARCUS VISIONARY. From opening to close, if you love reggae music, heck, if you just love a good time with good music, Ship Point is the place to be on Friday, June 26. Come join us and fill up your heart

Victoria Ska and Reggae Fest marches on with an anarchic celebration of punk, ska, and beyond. For the second consecutive year, the festivals main headliner is a punk rock legend, further celebrating the genres influence on ska and reggae culture. Lagwagon makes their festival debut to headline our marquee evening program. The California punk band formed in 1989 and gained renown in the American punk scene and beyond for their influential contributions to melodic hardcore and skate punk. Known for their fast tempos, memorable lyrics, and catchy melodies, Lagwagons early albums, like Trashed and Hoss, are considered classics, influencing subsequent generations of punk bands. Lagwagons most popular album, Lets Talk About Feelings released in 1998, featured several iconic tracks, including May 16, and received widespread acclaim for its blend of melodic punk and introspective lyrics, contributing to the bands lasting impact on punk rock. Now three-plus decades into their career, the band is as tight as ever, wowing longtime and new fans across the globe. Also making their festival debut is Against All Authority. The politically charged skacore band was born in 1992 in the wake of the destruction left behind by Hurricane Andrew in Miami, Florida. Musically they fill the gap between old school 80s hardcore punk and uplifting feel good ska with a bright yet ferocious original sound. The band has five full length albums and over seven EP releases spanning from 1994-2006. After a 15-year hiatus, AAA is officially back with shows both in the States and internationally. Yet another festival debut, Bad Cop Bad Cop is bringing some more California punk fury to the Curling Club stage. The band has become an underground favourite through massive tours and numerous releases on legendary punk label, Fat Wreck Chords, offering a sound featuring massive hooks and sticky vocal harmonies. Their latest album, Lighten Up sees the punk quarter veer into reggae and dub for the first time, making them a perfect addition to the Ska and Reggae fest family. Holding down the Island scene is Mean Bikini. Blasting out of the seemingly sleepy town of Cumberland, BC, Mean Bikini are hailed for their ripping fast brand of punk and enthusiastic live show. Mostly queer, sometimes political, always a damn good time, when Mean Bikini is stalking the stage, you know youre gonna get kicked in the ears in the nicest way possible. Keeping the party going between acts is the VCS Sound System. The musical crew evolved out of friends love of good music. Playing in bands, going to shows, collecting and sharing proper music with one another evolved into what they are today. Not be boxed in by one genre, the crew spins glam, soul, reggae, rocksteady, power pop, mod revival, garage, and punk all on 45RPM vinyl.

Durham County Poets are from the Chateauguay valley located in Quebec, Canada. Their influences are varied, from blues to folk, from jazz to gospel, with elements of the Band, James Taylor, Jimmy Reed, even some Leon Redbone. Each member brings a different musical background to the band that marries into a sound that has been labeled as soulful folk."This group plays bluesy country/folk with a lot of verve. The lead singer sits in his wheelchair and just kills every vocal. The recording on “River” has mostly an ambient sound with very little reverb. It gives the listener a sense of sitting in a living room somewhere, listening to the band crank out one great tune after another.” — Acoustic Live in New York City, album review“The Poets lay down a sweet acoustic groove that’s subtle, yet captivating. Utilizing strong players on double bass, acoustic guitar, stellar electric guitar, percussion utilizing primarily brushes, they gently work around Kevin Harvey’s soulful lead vocals. I think every song I heard from them had at least one intriguing key change, further tenderizing the overall sound. Both acoustic and electric guitars often played together, uttering an almost piano sound with their blend. Watch for them next time they’re around.” Steve Tennant Medium “Enjoy the groove and good humor of The Durham County Poets.” John Platt, WFUV, radio (Fordham University Public Media) “Il ne fait aucun doute qu’on a affaire à un collectif de musiciens chevronnés et talentueux: une des belles découvertes de l’année!” Pierre Lamontagnele, Le net blues, 2014 “Kevin Harvey’ s rich voice and nuanced delivery covers the scope of life…. with ballads and blues-inflected originals, some swing and genial humour. Guitarist David Whyte’s guitar solos are pure grace. The Poets will get you dancing in the hallways, laughing, and feeling those blues. ” Spirit of Rasputin, Ottawa, Can.

Get ready to stomp your feet, laugh, cry, and hear sounds you've never heard before with this electrifying and genre-defying chamber-folk band. Wielding a sound that could turn classical music scholars to stone, these four folk innovators are reimagining the Western string quartet. Medusa Quartet cross-pollinates traditional music from around the world with original tunes, classical pieces, engaging stories, and their one-of-a-kind stringed instruments to create a "must-see live show!" (Sam Boer, Exclaim!). Medusa Quartet is truly unique in Canada, distinguished by its rare and compelling combination of instruments. Marta Sołek plays the Bilgoray Suka and the Płock Fidel from Poland, instruments that were made completely extinct and reconstructed in 1980 based on paintings from the 19th century. There are less than 50 people in the whole world that know how to play these instruments. Saskia Tomkins plays the Nyckelharpa from Sweden, a medieval-age fiddle that almost died out in the 20th century, but was resurrected by Erik Sahlström in the 1960’s. There is no other group in the country, and likely the world, that blends the sounds of these particular instruments together. By inviting back voices previously regarded as too ugly for “polite society,” Medusa tempts us to redefine what is beautiful. One of the most misunderstood figures in ancient mythology, Medusa was wrongfully punished and cast out for being the victim of a violent act, but is remembered solely for her frightful ugliness and lithifying gaze. As a band made up of female, 2SLGBTQ, BIPOC, immigrant, and neurodiverse artists, they resonate with Medusa’s story and hope to amplify the voices of these communities. With their debut EP, nominated for a 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award, Medusa harnesses the sounds of Middle Eastern, Scandinavian, Celtic, Appalachian, Classical and Eastern European music, as well as original compositions, to create something previously unheard. With this debut release, they connect audiences across dividing lines of culture and identity to reveal the common threads beneath. In the last several years they have toured across Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, including shows at Roy Thomson Hall, Calgary Folk Festival, Hugh’s Room Live, Calliope House, the Rogue Folk Club, and many more. Their music has been featured numerous times on CBC, CKUA, and Polish National Radio, and their EP was featured as one of Roots Music Canada’s favorite new discoveries of 2023. As individuals and as a group, Medusa Quartet has extensive experience teaching children and adults of all ages. They teach individual lessons, group workshops, and community events across Canada, the US and the UK and are in demand as instructors and guest clinicians for festivals, schools, fiddle orchestras, camps, residencies, and events. Medusa’s first full-length album, “Weaving Gold in Broken Places,” will be released in February 2026 and they will be embarking on a release tour of Canada, the US, and Europe. Individual Biographies Marta Sołek (she/her) is a multi-instrumentalist from Poland. She was essential in the creation of a folk music revival program at the Krakow Academy of Music, which allowed her to be the first musician in the world to hold a master's degree in the Suka from Bilgoray and Płock fiddle, alongside classical cello. She was a part of the restoration of these unique traditional Polish instruments from the 17th century, and flew to Pakistan to study with sarangi masters in order to revive a lost fingernail technique needed to play these instruments. Marta has performed all over the world with classical orchestras, jazz, pop, rock and world music bands. She has recorded 14 CD’s in total, as well as music for TV shows, games, and theater. She is the winner of several awards and grants including a grant from the Ministry of Culture of Poland, the Fryderyk (the Polish JUNO Award) for the best debut jazz album of the year (2015), and the best jazz album of the year with Nikola Kolodziejczyk (2016). She has also won several awards at “Nowa Tradycja” and ”Mikolajki Folkowe”, Polish Folk Festivals. She was part of the band Same Suki and founded the knee-fiddle duo InFidelis, whose Projekt Kolberg CD was awarded a full 5 stars in Songlines Magazine. She currently performs and tours with Labyrinth Ensemble, Polky, Moskitto Bar, KUNE Global Orchestra, and Meesha Shafi. She was the winner of the Orillia & District Art Council Emerging Artist Award in 2020 and received 4 Canadian Folk Music awards nominations for Polky and Medusa Quartet. Marta has a degree in teaching, psychology and pedagogy from the Music Academy in Krakow, Poland. She has over 15 years of experience teaching in Europe and Canada, giving workshops in classical and world music, and currently teaches cello at the Orillia Music Centre, Ontario. She is committed to raising awareness about these rare forgotten fiddles. More than 40 years ago, Hank Fisher and Ken Ramsden, two pathologically creative Peterborough residents, produced a remarkable musical coupling from which staid North American music lovers who saw them are still reeling. The result was performance art which incorporated everything from classical music to bluegrass gospel street preaching, in a spontaneous, antic conflagration best viewed through welder’s goggles. Their interactions generated a kind of whimsically-comic, high colonic, and anyone who saw these shows was forever changed... Peterborough locals, as well as Trent & Fleming alumni from the 1980's, may remember the weekly Wednesday night 'Red Dog Howls' at the Legendary Red Dog Tavern which featured Washboard Hank, the Reverend Ken and' The Lost Followers' Band from the Church of the Open Bottle. If you attended the Red Dog Howl you saw...appliance healings....student essay and exam blessings... Oktoberfests on roller skates....and even “Male Bum Cleavage Contests.” Hank and Ken toured all over North America, in true Rabelaisian fashion, by whatever means were available, putting on 'Gospel Gumbo' street shows from Vancouver to Calgary to Edmonton....from Nashville to Memphis... and from Oregon to San Francisco. Their stage names sometimes varied depending on the proximity of various law enforcement agents, high grade medicinal spirits and quality pharmaceuticals, and thus, among other less complementary terms, they were also known as “The Duke of Washboardom” and “The Parson of Panhandledom.” In many ways, they were to the folk idiom what Gonzo was to traditional reporting. Note: Our patio concerts will be held outdoors with wood fired pizza available. Gates open at 5 for the 6pm show. In the event of inclement weather we will be able to move the concert indoors. The show must go on, but pizza may not be available. Check in with us on the day.

Pineapple Productions is excited to announce our June Stone Hall Sessions concert in Havelock, Ontario - featuring 'the baddest band in the land' The Weber Brothers - back this year with a full-band show as part of the release tour for their newest album. One night, as teenagers, Ryan and Sam Weber left their home in Baltimore, Maryland with the aim of meeting their idol - rockabilly legend Ronnie Hawkins. Ten hours later, they showed up at his doorstep. “The Hawk”, the elder statesman of rock whose former protégés went on to reshape music history as “The Band”, was duly impressed by the pair’s immense raw talent, and promptly invited them to audition for his storied backing band, The Hawks. Mere months later, after surviving the intense musical apprenticeship of his fabled “Rock ‘n’ Roll Boot-camp,” they were in: full-blooded Hawks. By the ages of 18 and 21 they had already performed alongside Kris Kristofferson, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Jeff Healey and the Tragically Hip to name a few. Over the past 18 years they’ve recorded 17 independent albums and toured extensively throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. In October 2012 the brothers were invited to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame American Music Masters Tribute to Chuck Berry in Cleveland where they shared the stage with Merle Haggard, Lemmy Kilmister, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Rick Derringer, Joe Bonamassa, Earl Slick, Steve Jordan and the father of Rock and Roll himself, Chuck Berry. 2016 saw the release of Before We Arrive: The Story of The Weber Brothers, a feature length documentary chronicling the pair's musical journey, which the Toronto Independent Film Festival dubbed Best Documentary for 2016. The brothers have recorded on hundreds of outside projects, including work with Gordon Lightfoot, Kris Kristofferson, Ronnie Hawkins and Willie Nelson. Between their renowned musical ability, high-energy, awe-inspiring performances and lessons learned first hand from rock n’ roll pioneers, a reputation as the “Baddest Band in the Land”, “heroes of this generation” and “the future in the big shoes of the past” now precedes them. The Weber Brothers always deliver. “If it’s looked at as a passing of the torch or a keeping of the flame, then we’re the guys to do it,” says Ryan Weber. "The Weber Brothers are the ultimate roots band, playing, writing and doing it all." - Bob Mersereau, Top 100 Canadian Blog "If I had The Weber Brothers with me in 1952...Elvis would've been my roadie." - Ronnie Hawkins Check out Wild As Wild Dogs. PLEASE NOTE: Advance ticket sales end at midnight on Saturday, June 27. Advance tickets are not available on the day of the event. At-the-door Tickets - if available are $35.
