It celebrates the diversity of placemaking activities in Oak Park and surrounding communities.The event features six to eight storytellers. Each presentation is 360 seconds long, featuring 12 automatically advancing projected images. Were the same age, we have the same hereditarily dictated hairstyles, and we all grew up on the same diet of TV variety shows, leaded gas, and Space Food Sticks. We were also fortunate to have been raised during the most vibrant and varied era of Top 40 radio: the 70swhen rock, country, soul, schmaltz, easy listening, funk, metal, pop, and novelty tunes lived side by side on the charts and nobody made a big deal out of it. We loved and absorbed it all as it leapt out of our clock radios. So we like to think were reflecting that open-eared upbringing back to the people who come to see us, and that is what they like about usthe everythingness of our set list. We only have two rules: 1. No shorts. 2. No Doors. We take our playing seriously, although our presentation perhaps a bit less so. At heart, were a ski lodge band; a bar band with no fixed allegiance to any genre or era; a live act. That weve decided to record a studio album might seem a little incongruous, but we wanted a document. So we set up in Mike Haglers studio and banged out some of our favorite songs, all of us playing together live, the way we work best. This record captures us, clean and big, with equal parts grit and polish, and a lot of first takes. We hope you invite Hot In The Dark to your next party, and we also hope youll slip into your Earth Shoes, grab a nice fondue dinner somewhere, hop into your AMC Pacer, and come out and see us live sometime, somewhere. He has woven a varied and prolific career, never walking a straight line in any genre. His trio Sun Rooms, with Mike Reed and Nate McBride, turned heads in 2010 and captured a spot on that years New York Times Top 10 Pop and Jazz Records. MORE ON THE DOWD:Gerald Dowd has been described as the hardest working drummer in Chicago (Richard Milne, WXRT), playing on over 100 albums, and averaging 150 live dates a year around the world. In recent years, hes been releasing solo albums of original material, starting with his 2012 release, Kingsize EP. In 2014, he was the recipient of an IAP arts grant from Chicagos Dept. Of Cultural Affairs/Special Events (DCASE), which led to his first full-length solo album, Home Now, produced by Grammy-nominated producer Liam Davis, and featuring, among others, Chicago legends Robbie Fulks and Nora OConnor. To celebrate the release, he held a benefit concert (DAY OF THE DOWD) at which he played for 13 hours straight with 16 different bands, raising over $10,000 for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.__________________________________Grab dinner before the show at BABYGOLD BARBECUE
