FITZGERALDS SONGWRITER CIRCLE:HOSTED BY TERRY WHITEW/ SPECIAL GUESTS: Ike & Shane ReillyFREE SHOW!Click Book Now to Make a Reservation Terry Whites career as a musician can be traced back to his childhood in Oak Park, IL, just outside of Chicago, where he began teaching himself guitar as an adolescent (and played in the requisite talent show/school dance/house party band after graduating high school), but really took root in Carbondale, IL, where he attended Southern Illinois University and formed a band with Phil Bayer, Kevin James and Chris Obren after graduation. That band, Modern Day Saints, recorded a slew of original music and, in 1989, moved to Los Angeles to sell it all to the highest bidder. The band lost Obren to fatherhood but gained new drummer Rob Pierce and enjoyed a rabid LA following as regulars on the legendary Sunset Strip. After a long residency at the Whisky-a-Go-Go, Modern Day Saints broke up in 1992. You Wont Have a Home is a collection of songs written over the last four years. It began in 2021 when White, Paul Bivans (drums), Andon Davis (guitar), Michael Krayniak (bass) and Chris Neville (organ) met at Joyride Studios, owned by engineer Blaise Barton (who sadly passed away on June 12, 2025), in Chicago. The songs that comprise You Wont Have a Home were recorded one at a time, with as few overdubs as possible, to maintain a live in-studio sound. Over the course of many sessions, White enlisted his musician friends, including Brian Leach (who also engineered and mixed tracks on the album), Gerald Dowd, Patrick Brennan, Rob Pierce, John Pirruccello, and Phil Bayer, to lend their voices and assorted instruments to flesh out the desired sounds and textures. He further enlisted Pie Eyed Pete Cimbalo (bass), Sheila Cimbalo (vocals) and Tom Kneesel (pedal steel) to record a version of Deportee (Plane Wreck at Lost Gatos), written by Woody Guthrie and Martin Hoffman. At 65 years of age, Terry White has plenty of experiences to draw on as a writer. The songs that appear on You Wont Have a Home reflect not only the mistakes hes made over the years, but also the good fortune that he has enjoyed. The album opens with Laughing Leads to Crying, which combines the mistakes, good fortune, and some pure fiction all in one! MORE ON THE DOWD:Gerald Dowd has been described as the hardest working drummer in Chicago (Richard Milne, WXRT), playing on over 100 albums, and averaging 150 live dates a year around the world. In recent years, hes been releasing solo albums of original material, starting with his 2012 release, Kingsize EP. In 2014, he was the recipient of an IAP arts grant from Chicagos Dept. Of Cultural Affairs/Special Events (DCASE), which led to his first full-length solo album, Home Now, produced by Grammy-nominated producer Liam Davis, and featuring, among others, Chicago legends Robbie Fulks and Nora OConnor. The songs are fun and include cumbias, boleros, huapangos, son and more! The Mexican Grupos utilized electric instruments such as a Farfisa organ, electric guitars, drums and percussion. Artists such as Los Bukis, Los Humildes, Rigo Tovar and Los Socios de Ritmo dominated the radio air waves. Keyboardist Eddie Torrez played this music starting at the age of 14 and always wanted to play this music again. He later headed to Austin Texas to play in several Americana bands before heading back to Chicago playing rock, blues and jazz standards on piano and accordion.The night will be fun with music that celebrates Mexican Grupos music. He rocks your socks off with crazy guitar riffs, makes you cry expressing touching lyrics, and constantly surprises you with the depth of his musical knowledge! Known in Chicago as THE Beatles guy, Phil consistently draws diverse audiences to Beatle shows; first when playing with the Beatle Brothers, now with the Phil Angotti Band, Great Moments in Vinyl, the What4, and as a solo performer. Phil plays the Beatles catalog by heart and from the heart. The years of practice, listening and learning are evident, especially since he is great at taking requests! The Kinks, The Zombies, The Bee-Gees, Nick Drake and Buddy Holly all hold special places in his musical mind too. Phil is the current lead singer and guitar player for Material Issue, a Chicago power-pop band who made it big in the early 90s (they had videos on MTV when that was cool). Now known as Material ReIssue, opening for The Smithereens is one of his favorite moments on stage in fact! Other great moments in Phil include opening for Marshall Crenshaw, Richard Furay (Buffalo Springfield), and Eddie Money, plus the Beatles album shows. The *ahem* experience of this guy is key. His music came out first on vinyl, then cassette, 8-track, cds, then back to vinyl. Through all 14 solo albums Phils melodys shine, blending cool pop grooves with sweet harmonies.
