Participants will be encouraged to remove their adult lenses and redefine many of their long held “norms”. This session explores how “being nice” can sometimes get in the way of meaningful learning and authentic connection. We’ll unpack the messages sent through forced apologies and compliance-based responses, and look at how these approaches can unintentionally limit empathy and accountability. Participants will learn practical alternatives that support emotional understanding, repair, and stronger relationships with children. While commitment to attending all sessions in this series is not required, it is strongly encouraged, as the sessions build a shared language and consistent approach to supporting children’s social and emotional development. Charity Paolini has been supporting children, parents, educators and families for over 15 years. With training and certifications in mental health, well-being, education and parenting, she brings both expertise and a genuine passion for helping folks navigate real-life challenges. Charity is dedicated to creating spaces where everyone feels supported, connected, and equipped with practical, evidence-informed strategies they can use right away. Outside of her work, Charity is a mom and an avid gardener who finds joy in nurturing all things. Life at home is full of energy with her son and the circle of friends he brings through the door, reminding her daily of the importance of connection, patience, and humor. Guided Tours of the Ross Bay Villa Historic House and Garden

Journey back in time at Ross Bay Villa Historic House Museum, a volunteer-run museum and restoration project located in Fairfield. On Saturdays at 2PM, walk down the path past heritage apple trees and beautiful gardens and step into one of only a few 1860s houses still standing in Victoria. From the bright and airy drawing room to the charming children’s bedroom, the house has been restored with extraordinary care to appear as it did when the Roscoe family called it home. Come experience a unique piece of Victoria's past, with a knowledgeable volunteer as your guide. The Gothic Revival Ross Bay Villa was built in 1865 for Victoria businessman Francis Roscoe and his wife, Anna Letitia Roscoe. Located far away from the bustling streets of the new gold rush town and a short distance from the beach at Ross Bay, the property offered a beautiful countryside home for the Roscoes’ and their growing family. Since the year 2000, the site has undergone a massive transformation through thousands of volunteer hours spent carefully returning the house to it's original appearance inside and out. Admission is $7.50 plus tax per person. Tours must be booked ahead of time. All funds support the volunteer-based Ross Bay Villa Society which owns and operates Ross Bay Villa. Drop in a little early for your Saturday tour for our Ross Bay Villa Gift Shop. This unique vintage store has handcrafted items made by volunteers, plus everything from clothing and books to fine china and unexpected treasures. Stop by between 10-2 and find something special! Please note, donations of smaller, gently used household items are gratefully accepted. Notes: If no tickets are available for your Saturday tour date, this means all tickets released have been sold. As our historic museum is best explored in small groups with a guide, we try not to overcrowd each tour. If you would still like to visit on your preferred date, please arrive shortly before 2PM and speak to a member of our Society. We will do our best to accomodate you, but your tour slot will not be guaranteed as it is dependent on if another volunteer is available to host a second tour. If so, we can accept cash or etransfer (treasurer@rossbayvila.org) for your ticket.Our historic house museum has been restored to its appearance in the 1860s-70s. Nothing is behind glass! For that reason, children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 6 are no charge. The Villa is walker and wheelchair accessible, but due to the cozy confines of this mid-Victorian house, users of larger mechanized chairs may find the interior rooms more difficult to access. Morgan Davis
Event Information
For 50 years Morgan Davis has been on the road travelling across Canada, the United States and Europe. His performances draw from a rich tradition of country blues, as well as his own contemporary songs infused with wit and a large dose of humour. Originally from Detroit, Davis grew up listening to a prolific mix of rhythm and blues. The music of Jimmy Reed, Ike and Tina Turner, Chuck Berry and Fats Domino was in the air. He later moved to California with his family, and then in 1968 left for Canada. While living in Rochdale College, Toronto's mecca for the subculture of the late 1960's, he immersed himself in the study of Delta Blues, especially the music of Robert Johnson. Toronto's music scene in the early 1970's was the perfect place for Davis to cut his teeth as a journeyman, having the opportunity to see and play with many legendary performers. Bukka White, Johnny Shines, Sunnyland Slim, Snooky Pryor, Hubert Sumlin, and John Hammond were encouraging supporters. Davis hit the road with the Rhythm Rockets, The Knights of The Mystic Sea, and David Wilcox's first band, eventually forming his own trio. Over the years he has had the privilege of opening for Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, John Hammond, Albert Collins, and Eric Bibb. A highlight of his career was backing the phenomenal Dr.John. Morgan has shared the stage with Colin Linden, who also produced his second album, shared the stage with James Cotton, Hubert Sumlin, Sunnyland Slim, Snooky Pryor, James Harmon, Gene Taylor, Dutch Mason, Gene Taylor and many other great blues artist over the years. Davis' songwriting talent received international recognition when Colin James covered his searing ballad "Why'd You Lie". Morgan's recording "Blues Medicine", on Electro-Fi records, garnered critical acclaim as well as awards for songwriting and production. His multi- award winning release "Painkiller" won an impressive four awards at the 2004 Maple Blues Awards and not long after took home Canada's top music prize...the Juno for Blues Album of the Year. Davis has established a rich career as a solo artist, and also performs with stellar lineups of musicians as a trio or full band. His most recent recording, "Drive My Blues Away on Electro-Fi records is his first solo disc. His previous recording "At Home In Nova Scotia", pays homage to Atlantic Canada where he has been a resident since 2001. Morgan's passion for the Blues has never wavered...and he fully expects to be on the road for the rest of his life.

Through The Slackers mixed repertoire of music ranging from ska and reggae to soul, Rve managed to capture fans that span the spectrum of music with audiences of all ages. The band also plays with an aggressive edge and their songs veer in themes from the personal to the political. Since forming in 1991, the Slackers have released 16 albums, 5 EPs, and countless singles. They have performed thousands of energetic concerts for their global fanbase and remain unstoppably prolific. In their 2025 releases on Pirates Press Records, the EP Money is King, an indictment of the powerful as only the Slackers can do, went straight to the top 25 of the Submodern Reports album list. Their single My Last Star was a tribute to Hepcats Greg Lee, fulfilling the final creative vision of the late singer. The 11-track compilation Lost and Found Vol.2 had a surprise boogaloo breakout streaming hit with Diskambobulated. Opening for The Slackers are one of Canadas most beloved ska/rocksteady groups. Hailing from Victoria, Phonosonics will be on tour with The Slackers for both Island shows in Victoria and Cumberland. Phonosonics have steadily been gaining traction the past 10 years as the go-to band for the old school rocksteady sound you can rarely find in contemporary bands in Canada. They have backed some of the worlds best ska/rocksteady and reggae/dancehall artists including Leroy Sibbles of the Heptones and Sister Nancy at the Victoria Ska s BBC1Extra show dating back to 2016 when they released Between Two Headphones/Dark Haired Lady which reached #3 on Earshots International Music chart. Phonosonics were a choice pick from The Slackers to support their Island shows and they will set the stage for another unforgettable Slackers experience. Now after 27 years of working with the Slackers, Victoria BC Ska & Reggae Society is excited to continue the tradition of Slackers music to future generations.
