Please Please You & Brudenell Presents... If – in some parallel universe (or perhaps a not-so-distant-future version of the one we’re already sentenced to living in) – the evil overloads of artificial intelligence were actually successful in their attempts to create convincingly enjoyable “original music,” more specifically tasked with wholly encapsulating my own personal tastes by data-chugging some cocktail of – oh, I don’t know – the posters on my wall, the records in my “most listened to” pile, the mixtapes I made for others, intensive physical scans of my auditory cortex, amygdala, hippocampus, heart strings, whatever else they have splayed out on their autopsy table with the intention of generating one all-encompassing “perfect band” based on the fruitful sum of their findings – that band, for me, would be (or would at least sound exactly like) the Tara Clerkin Trio. It is, quite simply, without exception, the music I wish to hear. Formed in Bristol UK (where none of them are from yet all of whom are deeply engrained) in 2020, the Tara Clerkin Trio – as it somewhat democratically exists today, despite the singular authority implied by its name – consists of the titular Tara Clerkin, her partner Sunny Joe Paradisos, and Sunny’s brother, Patrick Benjamin. I’ll confess, I don’t know what their respective roles are within the operation and there’s only a very small part of me that cares to learn, as one of my favorite qualities in an objective listening experience is the mystery of who is playing what, which sounds are “authentic” versus synthesized, which chunks are performed “live” in a room together versus meticulously Frankenstein’ed from measure to measure, or how exactly the overall sound is so (seemingly) effortlessly achieved. Though, I suspect, if and when I do witness a live performance by this band at any point, my enjoyment of the music will not be lost in my better understanding of it. With two extraordinary mini-albums – In Spring (2021) and On The Turning Ground (2023) – making a splash on London’s formidable World of Echo label in wake of their self-titled 2020 debut, this upcoming Somewhere Good LP is, in many ways, the band’s most realised work. In running their usual gauntlet of idiosyncratic (*an overused adjective for which here there is regrettably no sufficient alternative) approaches, Clerkin & co. color in and outside of compositional lines over the course of 40+ celebratory minutes - never wallowing, despite inherently somber subject matters of self-defeat, disease, displacement, restlessness, gentrification - allowing their arrangements and improvisations ample space and time to situate, stretch out, breathe, cross-pollinate, and ultimately take deeper hold on the listener’s imagination – all while somehow sounding more like themselves than ever before. Of course, there are traceable influences herein, if one felt that such comparisons were necessary to properly examine and enjoy this music (they aren’t)… Being the big dumb American from the small boring town that I am, cornfed on ‘90s alternative radio with the enchantingly exotic sounds of Maxinquaye and Mezzanine emanating from my chunky tube television, I can’t help but to make a blatantly obvious reference to a “Bristol sound”, ie the whole trip-hop trip, the pastoral crooning over the suggestive urban grime of cracked electro/piano treatments, the digitally-yet-primitively reconstructed James Bond soundtrack string-beats, etc.. But the Tara Clerkin Trio is so infinitely much more than that. There are elements of avant-pop, modern classical, kraut-folk, audio verité, dare I say indie rock (and not of the beer guzzling, masturbatory fuzz-flex variety but perhaps more like a Trish Keenan-fronted Faust, Adrian Sherwood at the mixing desk of If You’re Feeling Sinister, or – in expanding on our alternate reality – a world in which High Llamas cut a full-length for Warp Records with Andrew Weatherall on coffee duty). The hazy, unmappable skyline-mirage of droning harmonium, upright bass, peculiarly accentuated wind instruments, acoustic guitar, hushed yet literally mighty keys combine to hypnotizing effect. The band may make underlying nods to jazz, sure, but it’s not appropriation, it’s that they have the actual chops to build it out. Beneath the janky samples and oddball percussive embellishment lies actually great drumming. Beyond the manipulated vocal witchery and woefully reflective plain-spoke moments are Tara’s subtly inspired melodies, sung with what might honestly be the glue to the whole crazy equation. A calming consistency throughout the otherwise unpredictably dynamic, boldly intuitive, uniquely British exploration of this (their own) universe in song. – Ryan Davis (Chicago, February 2026)

Brudenell Presents... British slacker twang quartet Brown Horse present “Wreck”, the third and final single from their upcoming album, Total Dive, out 10 April on Loose Music. A bonfire of anthemic country-rock, with world-weary electric guitars and glistening pedal steel howling through the verses like wind over the flatlands of East Anglia. “Wreck” is an ill-fated drive among the abandoned gas stations and otherworldly byways of rural Norfolk. Crosstown Concerts Presents... “Space travel rock’n’roll” – that’s how the band initially self-identified their sound. This was back in the 1990s, before the aspirational dreams of the computer age collided with reality. Across the four-album arc of their first era – Raise (1991); Mezcal Head (1993); Ejector Seat Reservation (1995); 99th Dream (1997) – Swervedriver made music that was all about the journey: songs called “For Seeking Heat”, “Planes Over The Skyline”, “Juggernaut Rides”, “93 Million Miles From The Sun And Counting”. Swervedriver simulated the thrill of propulsion, the euphoric arrival, the anticipation of going back again (or not)… of moving on. And move on they did. During 10 years in absentia, the band’s legend grew. Sages spoke mistily of these four desert rock horsemen of the apocalypse who came from Oxford and were shunned as exiles in their own land. In 2005, a two-disc anthology was compiled with the band’s involvement, and foretold a resurrection. Sure enough, the trip resumed in 2008, with Swervedriver encountering the acclaim they ought to have enjoyed a decade earlier. A fifth album, I Wasn’t Born To Lose You, emerged in 2015, a mere 17 years after its predecessor, and trumpeted some eternal Swervedriver virtues: the intricate, fissile guitar patterns of Adam Franklin and Jimmy Hartridge, baked hard then dispatched in giant monolithic waves by the tactile rhythm section. John Hackett has been a much-loved and admired figure in the progressive rock scene since the mid-70’s; best-known for his flute work with his brother, former Genesis guitarist, Steve Hackett on albums such as Voyage of The Acolyte, Please Don’t Touch and Spectral Mornings alongside his own solo albums Checking Out Of London, Another Life and The Piper Plays His Tune 2025 saw the release of their acclaimed second album, Red Institution and a tour taking the band from Glasgow to Penzance, Colchester to Oswestry; thrilling audiences with brand new tracks alongside classic Hackett material from the heyday of progressive rock. The 2026 tour is equally extensive, concluding with a run of dates in Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands. The band is delighted to be sharing the stage with such diverse and imaginative talents as Heather Findlay, Olga Dikajee, Dorie Jackson and EBB. A mini festival with a host of tribute bands playing live music for 5 hours from 4 original groups at The 100 Club Punk Festival 1976. 50 years after punk rock made a mark on London at the festival that brought together the best of the new upcoming punk bands, we celebrate with tributes to four of those groups - Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned and future icons to cross multiple genres, Siouxsie and the Banshees who were performing their very first live show. Kicking off with DJ Mutant Movement at 5pm, you'll hear punk classics before and between the bands. The line up that follows have racked up over 20 gigs for Mutant Movement between them so you can be sure this event has the right bands for the night. The Clashed https://www.facebook.com/TheClashed/ With their own Strummer and Jones, these guys are the only tribute band that matters when it comes to The Clash, vocal styles so close to both original singers and musicians that recreate every song with such accuracy. This will be the band's 6th gig for Mutant Movement, they played The Hairy Dog in 2022 as part of the Jubilee Tour with Sex Pistols Exposé. We'll be Damned On this, their debut gig for Mutant Movement, they open the show covering the back catalogue of both The Damned and The Ruts, concentrating on the first two albums for each band. The 1865 presents by arrangement with Selective Agency SPACE - Ten Neurotic Fairytales - New Studio Album and Tour 2026 - 30 years since the release of the Spiders album Space have been in the studio putting the final touches to the bands latest album titled “Ten Neurot- ic Fairytales” with a release date scheduled for Sep 2026 to coincide with the bands national 40 date UK tour starting in Sep 2026, Space will also be performing at a number of festivals in the summer of 2026.............. The album is a return to the classic sound of Space as heard on Radio 1, Virgin Radio and the leegendary Top of the Pops, TFI and the Big Breakfast. The artwork for the album and tour posters have been worked from using images taken of the original artworks and models made by Jonny Vegas, the band were blown away by Jonny’s exhibition and have since collaborated on the artwork for the Album, singles and tour. Space have sold over 5million albums worldwide, both Spiders and Tin-planet have achieved Double Platinum Status in the UK selling over 800,000 copies of each album to date . The band was formed naturally in 2004 by Russell Hastings with two thirds of the original line-up featuring Rick Buckler (The Jam) and Bruce Foxton (The Jam). The band have toured extensively worldwide and even to this day playing to adoring fans worldwide including the original fans – and of course younger ones – being brought up on The Jam's music. Russell and the guys are known for not trying to be like Paul, Bruce and Rick, but magically they sound identical and with as much passion as the guys produced in those five years from '77 through to '82. Rick left the band in 2010 to pursue other projects leaving both Bruce Foxton and Russell Hastings to form forces with Mark Brzezicki from Big Country on drum duties. It was around this time that the first 'Foxton and Hastings’ album was born. Back In The Room recorded at Paul Weller’s Black Barn Studios and also featuring Paul Weller on three or four songs including the hit single ‘Number Six’ with Paul on piano duties. The band continued touring filling larger and larger venues worldwide across Japan, America and Australia. 2015 bought about the second album Smash The Clock again to rave reviews and featured more guests including Steve Cropper, Wilco Johnson, Paul Weller, Paul Jones to name a few. Sadly Bruce suffered some health issues from around 2022 and decided it was wise to retire from touring and so did his last show in August 2025. Russell along with the rest of the band are continuing forward and spreading the joy and legacy of these wonderful songs and also playing tracks from the last three chart topping albums when they perform live. From The Jam return to the road in 2026 with a UK tour, which will see the band perform The Jam's iconic hits like 'Going Underground', 'A Town Called Malice' and 'That's Entertainment' at venues in Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Birmingham and more.
